See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Brooklyn Nets won the game, but other than that, Game 1 of the highly anticipated Bucks vs Nets series went very differently than was expected.
It began with James Harden going down in the first minutes. Health was always going to be a factor for the Nets in these playoffs, but it has come into sharp focus a little early in this series. Milwaukee looked okay coming out of the gate, but they shot terribly. Once they gave up the lead, it was tough to come back against the closing power of Brooklyn’s remaining stars, who led the way in the Game 1 win.

Milwaukee Bucks vs Brooklyn Nets Game 2 Matchup: Picks, Odds, Stats and More
Milwaukee Needs to Find the Range
The Bucks' top player might not be a good three-point shooter, but the team has to make shots from deep if they are going to compete. Milwaukee made only 6 of 30 threes in the loss on Saturday night.
Giannis scored 34 points to lead all scorers in Game 1. While effective from the field, shooting 16-24, five turnovers lowered his efficiency. He looked a little too amped up for most of the game. He was probing the defense but was not very decisive.
The opposite was true for forward Khris Middleton. Not only did he shoot horribly but his body language was terrible for the game. I thought he looked tired even though the team was well-rested. Making just 6 of 23 shots sunk the team's chances. It was not all on him though.
If the team starts shooting at the level they have throughout the season, that may be enough to even this series up on Monday. They know they can play better, but they are now 0-5 SU and ATS as an underdog for the season.
Brooklyn Looks To Mirror Game 1 Minus the Injury
When James Harden went down early in Game 1, it could have been detrimental to the Nets. But they eventually found their way and played a solid game on the way to a win and early series lead. Harden has already been ruled out for Game 2, and I don’t see any reason to take a chance with him as long as they are up in the series.
With Harden out reserve guard Mike James, who wasn’t even on the roster for most of the season, played a lot. The Euroleague vet plays with a ton of confidence and did not turn the ball over in 30 minutes of action. With Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, they don’t need him to try and replicate what Harden can do. He just needs to make the right plays.
Durant scored 29 points and Irving 25. Those are hardly high totals for those players, but they can certainly be counted on for more if the situation demands it. It might if Harden is out for most of the series.
Blake Griffin might have played his best game for Brooklyn since joining the team. He is playing with more grit than I expected and had 18 points and 14 rebounds before fouling out. He was in the middle of the action fighting for every loose ball.
