The 2021-22 NBA Finals kick off on Thursday, June 2 with Game 1 of the Boston Celtics vs. Golden State Warriors series.
Fans are already excited to see the two heavyweights collide, with some adding to the excitement by betting on Game 1. Although traditional markets — such as the point spread or money line — can be fun, there’s also good value to be had when it comes to NBA player props.
Both the Celtics and Warriors have their fair share of world-class talent, opening up the door for bettors to make some extra cash on the side.
Picking the best prop market can be tough, which is why this guide has collected a few of the top props heading into Thursday night’s Celtics vs. Warriors Game 1 matchup.
Best Celtics vs. Warriors Game 1 Prop Bets
The NBA props listed below are from BetOnline Sportsbook.
1. Andrew Wiggins Over 16.5 Points (-102)
When it comes to the Golden State Warriors’ offense, most people tend to pay the most attention to Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson. After all, the dynamic duo has accomplished a lot in their many years of playing together.
Having said that, Andrew Wiggins has done a great job at being a secondary contributor this postseason and should play an important role in the NBA Finals as well. A good way to do that would be hitting the over on this prop bet.
The good news is that the 27-year-old is averaging 15.8 points per game in the playoffs. Although that isn’t quite the total, it’s pretty close to it.
Furthermore, Wiggins has finished with at least 17 points in seven of his last 11 postseason appearances. Considering how he’s averaged 16.6 PPG over that stretch, it’s hard not to like him hitting the over on Thursday.
2. Jayson Tatum Under 3.5 Threes Made (-111)
Jayson Tatum is one of the most offensively-talented players in this series and has the potential to go head-to-head with the best scorers. Keeping that in mind, he isn’t always the most consistent from three-point range.
Tatum may have finished with four three-pointers in each of his lost two outings, but he averaged only 1.3 in three games before that on 18.1% shooting. That’s just a good example of how he can be hot one game and cold the next.
On top of that, the 24-year-old has only finished with the over on this prop in exactly 50% of his games this postseason. That’s just too low of a percentage to be able to trust him with confidence.
It also doesn’t help Tatum’s case that the Warriors have one of the top perimeter defenses at home in the NBA. Golden State is only allowing 11.9 threes (T-No. 8) on a 33.0% success rate (No. 2) at the Chase Center this season, so it’d be surprising if any Celtics had much outside success in Game 1.
3. Kevon Looney Over 9.5 Rebounds (-110)
One player who caught a lot of people by surprise over the last couple of weeks is Kevon Looney.
The Warriors center has seen an uptick in playing time over his last six games, going from playing under 20 minutes most nights to now being good for about 30.
The increased playing time has also led to Looney picking up more rebounds than before. He’s averaging 12.5 RPG over his last six outings, hitting the over in four of those contests.
What’s even more impressive is that Looney recorded 12-plus rebounds every time he hit the over, which includes an 18-board performance in his last outing. With the Celtics not hesitating to shoot the ball, there’s a solid chance that Looney is good for at least a double-digit rebound total tonight.
4. Stephen Curry Under 5.5 Assists (-104)
Despite everything he’s been through, Stephen Curry continues to be one of the best players in the world. Not only is he the best shooter that the NBA has seen, but he’s also a credible playmaker, highlighted by his 6.2 assists per game this postseason.
Although that average is above the total for this prop bet, don’t count on Curry hitting it in Game 1.
The Celtics have actually kept the veteran sniper in check throughout his career, holding him to 5.2 APG in 22 all-time matchups. To make matters worse, he’s finished with five or fewer helpers in seven of his last eight games against Boston.
Furthermore, the Celtics are also allowing a league-low 21.3 APG this season and held the Miami Heat to just 18.3 APG over the last three games of their Eastern Conference Finals series.
Fans should fully expect Curry to be active all over the floor in Game 1 on Thursday, but don’t count on him to finish with the high assist totals he’s been posting lately.
