See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Boston Celtics had a terrific opportunity to take the 3-1 series lead in the 2021-22 NBA Finals on Friday. Instead, they couldn’t stop the offensive phenom known as Stephen Curry, who led the Golden State Warriors to a 107-97 victory. The series is now tied 2-2 with Game 5 set to be played on Monday, June 13.
Curry was nothing short of spectacular with his 43-point effort in what was, arguably, the best playoff game of his career. He and the Warriors will need more of that magic if they hope to secure the 3-2 lead in front of the hometown crowd.
The Celtics are likely regretting not getting the job done in Game 4 and need to be much better if they hope not to fall behind. They’ve won in California before, however, momentum is not on their side this time.
Can the Celtics retake the series lead? Or will the Warriors jump ahead for the first time?

Celtics’ Stars Must Match Curry’s Offense
It’s no secret that the Celtics have had issues containing Curry. It might just be impossible to stop him defensively at this rate, which is why Boston’s top starts must step up to match him offensively.
While Curry had 43 points on his own in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum combined for 44 points while playing 39 and 42 minutes, respectively.
Unfortunately, the Celtics’ duo left a lot on the table due to their inefficient shooting. Had Brown and Tatum shot better than a combined 17-of-42 (40.2%) from the field, things could’ve gone a lot different.
It certainly doesn’t help that Al Horford’s offense seems to have disappeared as well. The 36-year-old big man was consistently putting up double-digit totals to begin the playoffs but has finished with nine or fewer points in eight of his last 13 games, averaging a 46.8% field-goal rating over that stretch.
Although Marcus Smart had 18 points and four steals in Game 4, he shot 38.9% from the field and 33.3% from the three-point line while finishing with a minus-17 rating. Derrick White wasn’t much better with his team-worst minus-19 rating off the bench despite scoring 16 points.
At the end of the day, the Celtics shot exactly 40.0% on their field-goal attempts as a team and that’s not going to be good enough to cut it against the Warriors.
If their top players can step up and shoot better, winning Game 5 and taking the NBA Finals lead is within the realm of possibility.
Does Curry Have an Encore Performance?
Everyone and their grandmother has been talking about Curry’s Game 5 performance and can you blame them? It’s an NBA Finals showing that’ll be remembered for years to come.
Just to reiterate, aside from his 43 points on 71.8% true shooting, Curry also tallied 10 rebounds and four assists while also making seven of his 14 three-point attempts. After a performance so iconic, people are wondering if he can do it again.
The truth is that Curry has been the best player in the 2021-22 NBA Finals and if anyone is capable of repeating what he did on Friday, it’s him.
The 34-year-old sharpshooter is leading the series with 34.3 points per game. He also ranks fourth on the Warriors with 6.3 rebounds and second with 3.8 assists. It also helps that he’s shooting 50.0% from the field while hitting 49.0% of his shots from beyond the arc.
The most impressive part is that Curry’s play this series has been the sole reason that the Warriors are still in it. After Curry, Klay Thompson is the team’s second-best scorer, averaging 17.3 PPG. A 17-point difference is nothing to sneeze at.
Simply put, it looks like the Warriors will live and die by Curry’s sword this series. The Celtics haven’t been able to stop him yet and that’s a trend he must continue to give Golden State the 3-2 lead on Monday.

Celtics vs. Warriors Game 5 Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction and best bets are from Monday, June 13.
Prediction: Warriors 108, Celtics 1o2
Best Bets: Warriors -3.5 (-109 at Bovada Sportsbook) and Under 212 (-110 at BetOnline Sportsbook)
After Curry’s showing on Friday, momentum is on the Warriors’ side and I expect them to turn that into a victory at the Chase Center on Monday. Game 4 was a series-changing momentum and that’ll be proven tonight.
The Celtics and Warriors have consistently hit the under in recent history too, hence why I’m going with it as well.
Celtics vs. Warriors Game 5 Best Prop Bet
- Stephen Curry Over 30.5 Points (-120, BetOnline Sportsbook)
As for the top prop bet, I’m taking Stephen Curry to hit over 30.5 points at -120 odds on BetOnline Sportsbook.
As mentioned earlier, Curry is already averaging more than that this series and has finished with 31 or more points in three of the first four games of the 2021-22 NBA Finals.
Furthermore, he’s also hit the over in five of his last eight overall games against the Celtics. Assuming nothing’s changed, it should be business as usual for Curry on Monday.
