Can Miami Find a Solution for “The Problem?”
Judging by how things went Wednesday, how Tatum has been playing, and how rough things have been for the Heat on the road this season, another long night at TD Garden appears to be in the cards for Miami.
In his first game of December, Tatum will be aiming to start the new month as he ended the last month. In his final four November games, he scored 37, 30, 35, and 49 points.
In those games against the Mavericks, Kings, Hornets, and Heat, Tatum shot 54.3 percent from the field and 89.2 percent from the free-throw line.
Tatum has been at the center of Boston’s fast start this season, scoring 30+ points 12 times in 21 games.
But he has kicked it up a notch recently and was at his most ruthless against the Heat, who allowed a season-high 134 points, 11 more than the Golden State Warriors scored in a win over Miami on October 27.
He has been better at home than on the road this season, averaging 33.5 PPG in 11 home games and 29.5 PPG in 10 road games. Also, he is shooting 51.5 percent from the field in home games and “just” 45.7 percent from the field on the road.
That is good news for him and terrible news for the Heat, whose only wins on the road thus far this season are just over a month apart–against the Portland Trail Blazers on October 26 and against the Atlanta Hawks last Sunday.
The one thing that Tatum hadn’t done so well until Wednesday was shoot the three well. Prior to that game, he had made just 32.6 percent of his threes in November.
But he could be set for another prolific night from the perimeter. Miami is allowing the third most made threes per game in the league, and (13.5) and the second most attempted threes (38.0).
Will Tatum Be Active on the Boards Again?
Scoring isn’t the only way that Tatum is showing out right now.
In Wednesday’s game against the Heat, he hauled in 11 rebounds, the eighth time he has done hit double-digit rebounds this season.
Also, the over on his assists total, which is 4.5 at BetOnline, is well within reach tonight. He had only three assists Wednesday, but he had five or more assists nine times in 15 games in November.
If you happen to not feel overall comfortable backing the over there, this is a good time to dust off the ol’ combo props, as he could end up with only three or four assists but then put up 35 points and 10 rebounds to help his points, rebounds, and assists prop hit with ease.
