Momentum is on the Lakers’ side after a 123-109 victory over the Indiana Pacers won them the inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament Cup. Meanwhile, the Mavericks most recently picked up a 120-113 win against the Memphis Grizzlies, highlighted by Luka Doncic’s team-high 35 points.

Lakers vs Mavericks Betting Trends

Lakers vs Mavericks Prediction & Pick (Dec. 12)

This matchup marks the second Lakers-Mavericks meeting of the 2023-24 NBA season. The two teams previously collided at crypto.com Arena on Nov. 22, ending in a 104-101 victory for Dallas as Doncic and Kyrie Irving led the way by combining for 58 points.

The above victory also marked the Mavs’ sixth win in their last seven meetings with the Lakers.

Nevertheless, a lot has changed since then. The Lakers have turned things around in the wake of that loss, winning six of the subsequent eight games — including the last four in a row. When it comes to the current winning streak, Los Angeles is scoring 117.3 PPG while outscoring opponents by an average of 17.8 points, further proving just how dominant they’ve been.

The Mavericks’ winning ways can’t be ignored, though. Their offense has been playing well, too, scoring anywhere between 120 and 147 points on .525/.398/.817 splits across three consecutive victories

But even with things going their way, it’s worth noting that the Mavericks struggle to produce results when the odds aren’t in their favor, going 1-8 SU in their nine previous games as the underdog.

One reason why Los Angeles is the favorite likely has to do with Dallas’ injury situation. Grant Williams (knee), Maxi Kleber (toe), and Tim Hardaway Jr. (back) all missed Monday’s game, likely meaning they won’t suit up tonight, either. On top of that, Irving is questionable with a foot injury while Derrick Jones Jr. exited yesterday’s victory with a quad injury and didn’t return.

The Lakers are also dealing with their fair share of injuries, but their situation is more favorable. Only Gabe Vincent (knee) has been ruled out thus far. Meanwhile, LeBron James (calf), Anthony Davis (groin/hip), and Jarred Vanderbilt (back) will likely be game-time decisions, however, there’s no reason to believe that the trio won’t suit up.

Doncic is capable of winning games on his own, but I don’t see that being the case tonight. The Lakers legitimized themselves by winning the in-season tournament and have what it takes to continue that momentum on the road as long as LeBron and Davis suit up. The duo has been on fire lately, averaging 24.5 PTS/7.3 REB/8.0 AST and 25.3 PTS/14.5 REB/2.3 BLK, respectively, during Los Angeles’s four-game run.

All it takes is a single basket to cover the spread, which is why I have no issue backing the Lakers to cover. After all, they’re 5-1 ATS in their last six outings whereas the Mavericks are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games on a Tuesday and 2-3 ATS in their five previous home contests.

As far as the best Lakers vs. Mavericks player prop goes, I’m taking LeBron James to finish with over 2.5 threes made.

The Lakers are one of the worst teams when it comes to three-point shooting, but you wouldn’t know that based on LeBron’s play. “The King” has been solid from downtown recently, averaging 2.3 threes made on 42.0% shooting in his last nine games, hitting the Over on this prop four times during that stretch. That includes going 4-for-4 from the three-point line against the Pacers.

Furthermore, the 38-year-old has made good on this prop five times in his last eight encounters with the Mavericks. After hitting finishing with four threes against Dallas just a few weeks ago, I’m confident that LeBron will have another successful night from the perimeter.
