Mavericks vs Thunder Prediction & NBA Picks Today (3/14): OKC Gets Revenge

The Mavericks and Thunder have already clashed twice this season with both meetings resulting in high-scoring affairs. Oklahoma City notched a huge 126-120 victory at American Airlines Center back in December before Dallas got revenge with a 146-111 win at home just over a month ago.

Having said that, this is the first meeting of the schedule at Paycom Center where the Thunder are 26-7 SU/22-11 ATS this season. In fact, they were on a nine-game winning streak at home — outscoring opponents by 17.2 PPG — before their loss to the Pacers.

Even though the Mavericks are 4-2 SU across their last six trips to OKC, they came up short when they last visited Paycom Center with a 120-109 loss on Jan.

But even then, that was more than a year ago. The Mavericks are one of the hotter teams at the moment, winning four games in a row ahead of tonight’s contest, which includes holding their last two foes to fewer than 100 points.

Will the Mavericks find a way to extend their winning streak tonight? 

This game could come down to which offense is more efficient this evening. They’re two of the highest-scoring teams in the Association with the Thunder averaging 120.7 PPG (3rd) while the Mavericks tally 119.0 (6th).

Oklahoma City is the more accurate team, though, shooting 50.6% from the floor (2nd) and 39.4% from deep (1st), whereas Dallas owns a 48.3 FG% (12th) and 37.1 3P% (12th).

The Thunder also have the edge on defense, where they allow 113.0 PPG (13th) compared to the Mavericks surrendering 117.5 PPG (23rd). OKC also won’t make it easy for the visitors to shoot the ball considering that it leads the NBA with 6.7 blocks per game.

Additionally, the Mavericks might be without Luka Doncic, who exited Wednesday’s game with hamstring soreness and is now questionable. For reference, Dallas is 3-7 SU in the last 10 games that Doncic has missed.

Will the Thunder’s superior defensive play be the difference-maker tonight? 

Whether Doncic plays or doesn’t, I’m taking the Thunder to win at home. They’ve been terrific at Paycom Stadium all season and they’ll be desperate to get revenge on the Mavs for the last encounter. Look for the Thunder to start this game strong before scoring at a rate that the Mavericks can’t keep up with.

Furthermore, I also like the Over on the 235-point total more than I do the spread. These teams step up offensively whenever they meet, proven by their last six encounters averaging 238.2 PPG with the Over being hit each time. Let’s not forget that the Mavericks and Thunder averaged 246.5 PPG in their first two clashes of the season, too.

In other words, expect fireworks in OKC tonight.
