Is it finally time to put some faith into the Mavericks? Entering today, they are seventh in the West, but they are only a half-game behind the #6 New Orleans Pelicans (35-25) and a game behind the Phoenix Suns (35-24).

After dropping back-to-back games at Indiana and Cleveland, the Mavs got back on track on Wednesday with a 136-125 win at Toronto.

Winning at Toronto is one thing, but can they win in Boston? After starting the season 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS at home against Western Conference teams, the Celtics are just 2-3 SU and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games against Western Conference teams.

However, a win for the underdog is unlikely to occur tonight. While Boston hasn’t been brilliant at covering the spread as a heavy favorite, they haven’t lost very often in this position. When favored by nine or more points this season, the Celtics are just 12-12-1 ATS but are 23-2 SU. If you extend that to games in which they have been favored by eight or more points, the Celtics are 32-2 SU and 17-15-2 ATS.

The Mavericks may be 7-3 SU and 8-2 ATS on the road against Eastern Conference teams this season, but with the way that Boston has been playing as of late—9-0 SU and 5-3-1 ATS in their last nine games, with covers and double-digit wins in each of their last four games—it’s either Celtics or avoid in this one, for me.
