See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Dallas Mavericks faced elimination on Tuesday night but managed to find a way to defeat the Golden State Warriors, cutting the series deficit to 3-1. Now, the two teams square off once more on Thursday, May 26 for Game 5 of the 2021-22 NBA Western Conference Finals.
Home-court advantage helped the Mavericks achieve victory in Game 4, but things are going to be tougher as they head back to the Chase Center — a location where they’re 1-3 in their last four visits.
The Warriors are 2-0 against the Mavericks at home this series and must use that momentum to close things out tonight. Otherwise, they risk momentum fully swinging back in Dallas’ favor.
Can the Mavericks force another home game with a victory tonight? Or will the Warriors finally advance to the NBA Finals?

Mavericks Searching for Back-to-Back Victories
The Mavericks have formed an interesting trend every time they win during the 2021-22 NBA Playoffs. Each of their victories in the previous two rounds has come in pairs, leaving them hoping for said trend to continue tonight.
If the Mavericks are going to score back-to-back victories for the fifth time this postseason, they must build upon their Game 4 effort.
As usual, Luka Doncic was his typical dynamic self in the victory, finishing as Dallas’ leader in points (30), assists (14) and rebounds (nine). He also had two steals and a pair of blocks.
Doncic, however, only shot .385 from the field and .273 from three-point range. Although his stat line was impressive, he has to shoot better than that to help the Mavs get closer to evening the series.
The Mavericks also need their role players to play as well as they did on Tuesday. Dorian Finney-Smith had 23 of his own points, along with six rebounds. Meanwhile, Jalen Brunson and Reggie Bullock combined for 33 points without a turnover on 14-of-25 shooting (.560).
Another thing that helped Dallas succeed in Game 4 was that the team only had eight turnovers after averaging 10.7 in the first three games. The Warriors average 14.9 points off turnovers in the playoffs, so it’s smart to limit those opportunities.
Even though the Mavs are 7-point underdogs across the board tonight, they are 12-6 against the spread in their last 18 visits to the Chase Center. Whether or not that translates to a victory remains to be seen.
Warriors Look to Close Out Series
The Warriors had a chance to finish off the Mavericks last game but came up short. To prevent that tonight, Golden State must get off to a stronger start.
The Mavericks outscored the Warriors, 99-70 after the first three quarters of Game 4. Golden State ended up winning the fourth quarter, 39-20, but it wasn’t enough.
Stephen Curry was the only player with a double-digit point total (15) at halftime. He only ended up finishing with 20 on 7-of-16 (.438) shooting and must play better, but he can’t do it on his own.
Klay Thompson and Andre Wiggins combined for only 25 points on 21 attempted field goals. That’s fairly disappointing, especially for Wiggins, who had a 27-point, 11-rebound performance only two nights earlier.
One area that the Warriors needed to be better at was their free throws. They shot only .654 from the line, missing nine of their 26 attempts. Considering how those free throws could’ve made it a much closer contest, it’s an area Golden State must improve on.
The Warriors even attempted more field goals (84) than the Mavericks (82), but it all came down to which team was more accurate. Golden State shot .488/.357/.654, while Dallas finished with .500/.465/.773 splits.
The good news is that the Warriors have won 10 straight games at the Chase Center, dating back to March 30. If they can fix what caused them to come up short on Tuesday, an 11th consecutive win could be around the corner.
Mavericks vs. Warriors Game 5 Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction: Warriors 109, Mavericks 102
Best Bets: Mavericks +7 (-110 at BetOnline Sportsbook) and Under 215.5 (-110 at Bovada Sportsbook)
The Warriors are an experienced team and I liked their odds of bouncing back from Tuesday’s underwhelming loss. The Mavericks have some great young players, but Doncic can’t win on his own every single night.
I’m also taking the under as the best bet. They’ve already finished with 215 or fewer points twice this series and the total has hit the under in four of Dallas’ last six games as the underdog.
Best Prop Pick for Mavericks vs. Warriors Game 5
- Andrew Wiggins Over 16.5 Points (-116 at BetOnline Sportsbook)
For the best prop bet, I’m taking Andrew Wiggins hitting over 16.5 points at -116.
His last outing may have been forgettable, but Wiggins has 16.4 PPG in his last 12 playoff games. Furthermore, he’s hit 17-plus points in seven of those games — including twice this series.
The Warriors need their supporting cast to step up tonight, so look for Wiggins to do that by hitting the over.
