With or without Kyrie Irving, the Brooklyn Nets are still some people’s first choice to cut down the nets at the end of the season. They are off to just a 2-2 start, but NBA betting odds at top sportsbooks still favor the Nets over the Lakers and Bucks.

The Heat brought in PG Kyle Lowry this offseason. The fiery veteran won it all with Toronto, and he will make Miami more of a threat when it matters most, in the playoffs.

This is an early benchmark game for both teams and definitely a possible playoff preview. I am curious to see how they match up.

The Heat have looked pretty good so far. They blew out the Bucks at home, lost to the Pacers in overtime, and took care of business against Orlando.

The best development of the young season is that guard Tyler Herro has been red hot, averaging 23 points per game, which is second on the team. The aforementioned Lowry has not been though. The fact that the team is generally playing well makes it nothing to be overly concerned about, though you do have to wonder how that contract will age. Top player Jimmy Butler is in midseason form and will be key in this one.

The Nets have had some surprising results, like not being competitive at Milwaukee and losing at home to Charlotte. Kevin Durant is averaging 31 points per game and is a threat to win the NBA scoring title, but overall this team is not scoring as you would think. James Harden is averaging just 17 points per game, and you have to wonder if some of the rule changes are hurting him. This team is definitely not humming yet.

Miami is 2-1 ATS and the Nets are 2-2 ATS. This should be a close, competitive game but until the Nets find that gear I am going to be looking to fade them, even at home. Brooklyn has elite closers with Durant and Harden, but Miami is no slouch in that area either with Butler and Lowry. The Heat are committed to defense too, and the Nets are not scoring that easily. All four of their games have gone under, but this one is a good candidate to go over.

Prop Watch: James Harden to score 25+ Points (+240)

The over-under on Harden for the game is 19.5 points (also a good bet). He is shooting only 36.4 percent from the field so far, but I think there is great value on him in this spot. The Nets need him, and Harden is such a smart player that he is going to figure it out eventually. Down the stretch, he can be lethal because he is such a good foul shooter too. At some point, he will start going off as he did in Houston.
