It’s a relatively quiet day around the NBA as five games are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 11. The action begins a lot earlier than usual, though, as the Brooklyn Nets (16-21) and Cleveland Cavaliers (21-15) go head-to-head at Accor Arena in Paris, France at 2 p.m. ET.

The Nets hope that heading overseas helps to reverse their fortunes after picking up losses in 11 of their last 14 outings. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers look for their fourth straight victory after Jarrett Allen’s 29-point, 16-rebound double-double helped lift them to Sunday’s 117-115 win over the San Antonio Spurs.
Both sides have a long way to go if they want to represent the East in the 2023-24 NBA Finals. BetOnline’s futures odds list Cleveland at +2200 (6th) to win the Eastern Conference Finals while Brooklyn is much further back at +20000 (12th).

Nets vs Cavaliers Prediction & Pick (1/11)
Although these teams are scheduled to collide four times during the 2023-24 NBA season, this is just the first time the Nets and Cavaliers will meet since they opened the campaign against each other. Things didn’t go Brooklyn’s way in that encounter as Cleveland emerged with a 114-113 victory behind Donovan Mitchell and Max Strus each scoring 27 points.
Even though that was a close game, it’s hard having much faith in the Nets winning this afternoon. A 3-11 SU record in their last 14 outings is nothing to write home about — especially with two of those victories coming against the NBA-worst Detroit Pistons.
The Cavaliers, meanwhile, are heating up with an 8-3 SU record in their 11 previous games and have won the last three in a row by an average of 21.7 points.
For reference, eight of the Nets’ last 11 losses came by a double-digit margin.
Will a trip to Paris help the Nets re-discover their winning ways?
Playing away from Barclays Center has also been a struggle for Jacque Vaughn’s team. On top of a 6-12 SU record in away games (compared to 10-9 SU at home), the Nets average 112.8 PPG (18th) on 45.1% shooting (26th) with a minus-6.4 average scoring margin (23rd) on the road.
And while the Cavaliers haven’t been perfect playing outside of Cleveland (9-7 SU) and average fewer points than the Nets do on the road (112.0 PPG), they do have better marks when it comes to field-goal percentage (47.0%, 14th) and average scoring margin (plus-1.0, 12th) in away scenarios.
The Nets could also have issues rebounding with Ben Simmons (back) and Day’Ron Sharpe (knee) — two of their top three rebounders — missing today’s game due to injury. The Cavaliers will still be without Darius Garland (jaw) and while his presence is always missed, it’s worth noting that Cleveland is 10-6 SU without him in the lineup this season.

Even though playing in France provides a change of scenery, the Nets’ luck won’t change. They’re playing an awful brand of basketball as of late and there’s little reason to believe in them against the Cavaliers, who’ve proven this season that they can find some success away from home. At the end of the day, Cleveland’s more accurate shooting will pay off.
As for the best bet, take the Cavs to cover the spread. The Nets are an abysmal 1-7 ATS in their last eight games on top of being 7-11 ATS on the road thus far. The Cavaliers are 8-7-1 ATS away from home and while that isn’t the most impressive record, their plus-21.7 average scoring margin in their last three games proves to me that they can beat the Nets by four or more points.

Best Nets vs Cavaliers NBA Paris Prop Bet (1/11)
One of the best player prop bets for this NBA Paris game is Donovan Mitchell Over 6.5 assists.
Although he’s known for his shooting skills, Mitchell is also quite the reliable playmaker. He’s averaging a career-high 5.7 assists per game this season, which is a number that’s jumped up to 7.4 APG over the last seven outings. Interestingly enough, the 27-year-old guard hit the Over in four of those outings — including a nine-assist performance against the Spurs.
With the Nets surrendering the fourth-most assists to shooting guards in 2023-24, Mitchell is in a great spot to come through on this prop bet today.
