With only a handful of games remaining in the 2021-22 NBA season, basketball fans will be treated to an all-Western Conference matchup Wednesday when the Golden State Warriors host the Phoenix Suns.

The Suns have been on fire, winning eight games in a row and 10 of 11 overall ahead of tonight’s matchup. They’re coming off a 114-104 victory over the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday, so it’ll be interesting to see how they follow up that momentum.

Meanwhile, things have gone the complete opposite for the Warriors lately. Golden State has dropped three consecutive games and has lost six of its last seven outings. The Warriors were blown out by the Memphis Grizzlies, 123-95, on Monday, so getting a bounce-back victory will be crucial to get something going before the playoffs.

Having said that, here’s a look at the betting odds and a prediction for Wednesday’s Suns vs. Warriors collision, as well as both teams’ postseason outlook in the Western Conference.

The Suns have looked nearly unstoppable throughout the 2021-22 NBA season and their current eight-game win streak is just an example of it. One reason why the team has been able to sustain their most recent success is that Phoenix’s star players have been showing up.

Devin Booker has been money in the backcourt recent, averaging 33.0 points on .559/.415/.881 shooting splits in his last eight outings. Meanwhile, Deandre Ayton has been a walking double-double throughout the Suns’ successful run, averaging 20.1 points and 10.9 rebounds.

The Suns’ lineup also recently received a significant boost with the return of superstar point guard Chris Paul to the lineup. The 36-year-old veteran doesn’t look like he’s missed a step, putting up 18.0 PTS/4.0 REB/13.5 AST in two games since his return.

At the end of the day, the Suns’ offense has been ridiculously impressive over their eight-game stretch, with Phoenix defeating opponents by an average score of 129.4 to 114.3.

When it comes to betting trends, the Suns are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games in addition to being 23-13 ATS on the road this season. That bodes well for them, especially with the Warriors being 1-6 ATS in their last seven outings.

Warriors Must Solve Offensive Woes

At the beginning of the 2021-22 NBA season, many experts had the Warriors as a championship favorite. However, things have broken down as the campaign’s progressed and one of the team’s biggest issues lately is its offense.

The Warriors are averaging just 103.4 PPG in their last seven outings — ranking dead last in the league over that stretch. While Jordan Poole (26.9 PPG) and Klay Thompson (23.8 PPG) have done their best to generate offense, it just hasn’t been good enough with the rest of Golden State’s roster not converting on their own opportunities.

One of the Warriors’ biggest concerns is that Stephen Curry has been sidelined with a foot injury. Although his situation is progressing for the better, he won’t be available against Phoenix, which is an issue if Golden State wants to keep up with Phoenix’s dynamic backcourt duo of Booker and Paul.

In addition to their struggle to win games, the Warriors haven’t done well when it comes to recent betting trends. Not only are they 1-4 straight up in their last five games, but they’re also 1-4 ATS during that stretch as well.

The total has hit the under in five of the Warriors’ last six home games due to their offensive struggles. Additionally, it’s also hit the under in 10 of their last 12 games against the Suns, so it’ll be interesting to see if that trend continues.

Western Conference Playoff Odds

Throughout the current season, both the Suns and Warriors have been the top picks to represent the Western Conference in the 2021-22 NBA Finals. Even though the latter has struggled recently, that’s still the case.

The Suns are currently BetOnline Sportsbook’s +115 favorite to win the Western Conference this postseason. The Warriors aren’t too far behind them, sitting in second at +340.

Although the odds are close, it’s tough not seeing the Suns going all the way. Not only are they the West’s best team, but they’re first place in the entire league.

Meanwhile, the Warriors’ may not be able to maintain those odds if their losing ways continue. The Grizzlies are ahead of them in the standings (5.5 games to be exact) but sit at +650 odds to win the conference.

In other words, the Warriors must beat the Suns on Wednesday to prove that they belong in the Western Conference title conversation. If not, their odds could slip sooner than later.

The Suns have been close to unstoppable and while the Warriors are playing below their potential, it’s hard to see them beating Phoenix without Curry on the floor. The Suns are stacked from the top to the bottom of the lineup, so look for them to further display their dominance tonight.
