Monday might be Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United States, but not even a holiday can stop the NBA. There are 11 basketball games scheduled for Jan. 15, including a showdown between the San Antonio Spurs (7-31) and Atlanta Hawks (15-23) at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Today marks the start of a five-game road trip for the Spurs, who are coming off a 122-116 loss to the Chicago Bulls over the weekend. Meanwhile, the Hawks will do their best to avoid a third straight loss after falling 127-99 to the Washington Wizards on Saturday.
If one of these teams wants to win a championship this season, it’s an uphill battle. San Antonio is in a five-way tie for the worst odds to win the 2023-24 NBA Finals while Atlanta is available at +20000 (20th), per Bovada’s futures odds.
There are also many betting opportunities for this MLK Day game, so let’s kickstart things by diving into my Spurs vs Hawks predictions and best NBA bets.

Spurs vs Hawks Prediction & Pick (1/15)
When it comes to this afternoon’s impending clash, it’s no secret that both teams could use a victory at State Farm Arena.
The Spurs have struggled to put up wins lately, going 3-11 SU (8-6 ATS) in their last 14 games. Although they have two of those wins in their last three games, both victories came against the Detroit Pistons and Charlotte Hornets, who are two of the three worst teams in the Eastern Conference this season.
Additionally, the Spurs have also dropped 14 of their last 16 road games, getting outscored by an average of 10.7 PPG.
It isn’t like the Hawks have been playing much better, though. Atlanta is rocking a 3-8 SU record over the last 11 games, which involves three multi-game skids. Defense has been a major issue during that stretch as Quin Snyder’s team has surrendered 127.1 PPG on 51.1% field-goal and 40.0% three-point percentages during that span.
Both the Hawks and Spurs must play better defensively if they hope to pick up the win in Atlanta today.
It isn’t as if State Farm Arena has provided the Hawks with much of an advantage in recent weeks, either. They’ve dropped 10 of their last 15 home outings while only covering the spread twice in those games, highlighting Atlanta’s inability to meet oddsmakers’ expectations at home.
Furthermore, the Hawks’ minus-3.4 average scoring margin at State Farm Arena this season ranks seventh worst in the NBA.
But even with these trends working against the Hawks, they’ve already proven that they can beat the Spurs this season, picking up a 137-135 victory on Nov. 30. Trae Young led the charge for Atlanta with a 45-point, 14 assists double-double while four different San Antonio players scored 21 or more points.
The Spurs did blow a 15-point lead at one point, leaving time to tell if they can have more of a complete effort this afternoon.
“I knew that was going to be my last game and I had to go off on a good note.”

With that being said, I won’t be shocked if the Spurs pull off the upset today. The Hawks are playing some awful defense at the moment, being beaten on the perimeter and inside of the paint. San Antonio could’ve easily defeated Atlanta with a more complete effort a few months back, so look for Gregg Popovich’s team to play a full 60-minute effort today to get back into the win column.
With that in mind, take the Spurs on the spread, too. The Hawks just can’t be trusted as 8-point favorites with the way they’ve been playing lately. It doesn’t help that they’re also 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games, whereas the Spurs have covered the spread in six consecutive outings.
Given that San Antonio has also won 11 of its last 16 trips to Atlanta, I expect this game to be close even if the visitors don’t win.

Best Spurs vs Hawks NBA Prop Bet (1/15)
After researching Bovada’s Spurs vs. Hawks player props, I have my eye on Victor Wembanyama to record 10+ rebounds.
Wembanyama has absolutely lived up to the hype this season. The 7-foot-4 rookie is averaging 10.2 rebounds per game, finishing with a double-digit total more times (18) than he hasn’t (15) thus far. In fact, he’s finished with at least 10 rebounds in each of his last three games and likely won’t slow down against the Hawks, who are surrendering the sixth-most rebounds in the NBA over the last 11 games.
Considering how he racked up 12 boards when he faced the Hawks in November, I like Wembanyama’s chances of another double-digit effort his afternoon.
