Suns vs Lakers NBA Predictions & Picks (10/25)
Both of these Western Conference powerhouses opened the 2024-25 NBA season with a victory.
The Suns needed overtime to pick up a 116-113 win over the LA Clippers at Intuit Dome. Kevin Durant led the charge with 25 points on 47.1% shooting while Bradley Beal added 24 points on .750/.667/.800 splits.
Meanwhile, the Lakers won in J.J. Redick’s head coaching debut, defeating the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-103 at home. Anthony Davis was unstoppable with a 36-point, 16-rebound double-double as LeBron James added 16 points, five rebounds, and four assists.
The Lakers looked solid in their win, but what was even more impressive was that they achieved victory despite only shooting 5-of-30 (16.7%) from deep. They’ll need to pick up the pace on the perimeter considering that the Suns went 15-of-38 (39.5%) from deep two nights ago.
The Lakers must shoot better from the perimeter if they hope to keep pace with the Suns tonight.
One area where the Lakers have the edge over the Suns is in the paint. Phoenix was outrebounded 51-42 in the home opener and surrendered a whopping 62 points in the paint. The Lakers dropped 72 paint points against the Timberwolves and also racked up 46 rebounds, leaving time to tell if they can pick up from where they left off.
The fact that tonight’s tilt is at crypto.com Arena also plays into Los Angeles’ favor. After all, the Lakers are a solid 4-1 SU across their last five home games against the Suns, outscoring the latter by an average of 10.8 points per game.
Both teams are banged up at the moment, though, meaning this game could come down to which side takes advantage of the other’s injuries.
The Suns have already ruled Josh Okogie (hamstring) out for tonight. Beal (shoulder) and Grayson Allen (Achilles) are also dealing with injuries, however, both men are probable to play.
As for the Lakers, Christian Wood (knee), Christian Koloko (illness), and Jarred Vanderbilt (foot) will all be out of the lineup this evening. Jalen Hood-Schifino is also doubtful as a result of an illness.
How will the Lakers and Suns’ healthy players step up tonight?
It’s shaping up to be a close game in Los Angeles. With that being said, I’ll side with the Lakers here. They looked like a completely different team under Redick’s guidance compared to last year and things will only improve once their three-point shots begin to fall. The Suns will push throughout the game, however, it’s hard to trust them based on their recent trips to crypto.com Arena.
I do like the idea of the Over on the 226-point total, though. The last four Suns-Lakers matchups averaged 230.5 combined points, finishing with 227 or more three times. They’ve also surpassed tonight’s projected total in four of their last five clashes in Los Angeles.
With the Over also being 9-4 in the Lakers’ last 13 outings at crypto.com Arena, I expect we’ll see a decent amount of offense in the City of Angels.

Best Suns vs Lakers NBA Player Prop (10/25)
After a strong performance in the paint on Wednesday, I’m riding with Anthony Davis o13.5 total rebounds (+102) for the best Suns vs. Lakers player prop bet.
As mentioned before, Davis racked up 16 rebounds against the Timberwolves and has a great opportunity to continue that trend. After all, the nine-time NBA All-Star played well against Phoenix last season, averaging 11.4 rebounds while finishing with 14-plus twice in five games. He’s now averaging 13.5 REB in his last 10 games against the Suns, which includes a pair of 21-rebound performances.
Considering how the Suns struggled to defend the paint earlier this week, I like Davis’ chances of racking up even more boards at crypto.com Arena.
Suns vs. Lakers Player Prop: Anthony Davis o13.5 Rebounds (+102)
