Suns vs Mavericks NBA Predictions & Picks (11/8)
Friday’s matchup is the second Suns vs. Mavericks clash of the 2024-25 NBA season. The Western Conference foes previously met at Footprint Center back on Oct. 26, ending in a 114-102 home victory for Phoenix as Kevin Durant scored a team-high 31 points while adding nine rebounds.
Since that encounter, both sides have enjoyed some success.
The victory started a six-game win streak for the Suns, who are coming off Wednesday’s 115-112 victory against the Miami Heat. Once again, it was the Durant Show as he racked up 32 points on 56.5% shooting while Jusuf Nurkic dominated the paint with a 20-point, 18-rebound double-double. November tends to be a good time for Phoenix as it’s 10-1 SU across its last 11 games played in the month.
As for the Mavericks, they’ve been alternating wins and losses for the last few weeks. They were last in action two nights ago, notching a 119-99 win over the Chicago Bulls at home to improve to 2-2 in the first four outings of their five-game homestand. Having said that, Dallas has only won back-to-back contests once this season.
Can the Mavericks finish their five-game homestand with an above-.500 record?
Stellar defensive play has been a big reason behind the Suns’ win streak. They’ve held their last six opponents to 108.5 PPG on .418/.364/.840 shooting splits while outscoring them by an average of 5.5 points per game.
While the Mavericks boast skilled players like Doncic and Kyrie Irving, their offense has been fairly average this season. On top of only averaging 113.5 PPG (T-17th), they’re only shooting 46.1% from the field (16th) and 35.5% from the three-point line (17th). Their offensive efficiency also ranks near the middle of the league at 14th.
While the Suns aren’t the NBA’s highest-scoring team, they still rank T-13th in PPG, 10th in FG%, and fifth in 3P%. That’s without mentioning how they also boast the 11th-best offensive efficiency.
Injuries could also affect the Mavericks tonight. Dereck Lively II (shoulder) and P.J. Washington (knee) have already been ruled out while Maxi Kleber (hamstring) is expected to be a game-time decision.
On the flip side, Bradley Beal (elbow) is probable to suit up for the Suns while Ryan Dunn (ankle) is doubtful.
Bradley Beal (elbow) will likely suit up for the Suns tonight.
Although the Mavericks are the favorites, I’m picking the Suns to win tonight. Phoenix is red hot at the moment and has done a good job at decisively beating its recent opponents. Dallas is still one of the West’s top teams, however, its inability to win consecutive outings has left me with doubts. It’s more likely that Phoenix will keep its winning ways alive with a strong road effort.
With that in mind, the Under on the 232-point total is a no-brainer. These teams just don’t score a lot of points when they meet as the Under is 5-1 in their last six meetings. The Suns and Mavericks averaged a combined 230.8 points during that stretch and only scored a total of 216 points when they met last month.
Considering how two of the NBA’s better defenses will be on display tonight, I don’t anticipate a barn-burner at American Airlines Center.

Best Suns vs Mavericks NBA Player Prop (11/8)
With the way he’s been performing, I love the idea of Kevin Durant o25.5 total points (-115) being the best Suns vs. Mavericks player prop bet tonight.
Now in Year 17 of his illustrious NBA career, Durant continues to be a dominant offensive threat. The 14-time All-Star is averaging 27.8 points on .551/.420/.813 splits and has finished with the Over on this prop in five of his last seven outings — including the most recent two. That also includes when he dropped 31 points on Dallas at the end of October.
Speaking of which, the Over is also 4-3 in Durant’s last seven encounters with the Mavs as he averaged 26.0 PPG with a 46.5 FG% and 32.7 3P%.
As long as he keeps playing as he has to begin the 2024-25 campaign, Durant is in a good spot to hit the Over again.
Best Suns vs. Mavericks Player Prop: Kevin Durant o25.5 Total Points (-115)
