Two of the best teams in the NBA this season collide on Wednesday night when the high-powered Minnesota Timberwolves (20-5) look to remain atop the league when they visit Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers (18-8) at Wells Fargo Center.
The Timberwolves are coming off a 112-108 win over the Miami Heat, improving to 9-1 SU in their last 10 games along the way. Meanwhile, the 76ers hope to bounce back after a 108-104 loss to the Chicago Bulls ended their winning streak at six games.
Unsurprisingly, Bovada predicts there is a good chance that one of these two teams wins the 2023-24 NBA Finals. Philadelphia currently owns the seventh-best odds (+1400) to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy next spring while Minnesota is right behind in eighth (+1800).
Tonight’s matchup is a huge one that features plenty of chances to win big, so let’s dive into my Timberwolves vs 76ers prediction and best bets.

Timberwolves vs 76ers Prediction & Pick (Dec. 20)
After the Boston Celtics lost on Tuesday, the Timberwolves are now in sole possession of first place in the NBA.
They aren’t exactly showing any signs of slowing down, either. The Timberwolves have won nine of their last 10 games thanks to elite defensive play, holding those opponents to a 104.3 PPG clip. Their offense has been clicking, too, playing a big role in the team’s plus-10.0 average scoring margin along the way.
It certainly helps that Minnesota’s best players are playing to their potential. Rudy Gobert is Bovada’s Defensive Player of the Year favorite, averaging 8.5 defensive rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game with a 102 defensive rating. Anthony Edwards is averaging 24.6 PPG for the second straight season while shooting a career-high 38.3% from the three-point line.
That’s without mentioning how Karl-Anthony Towns is nearly averaging a double-double (22.2 PTS, 9.5 REB).
At the same time, let’s not ignore what’s going on in Philadelphia. The 76ers are near the top of the NBA due to the terrific play from Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, and it’s going to take a lot for the T-Wolves to shut the duo down.
Embiid is pacing the NBA with a personal-best 34.4 PPG on 64.5% true shooting. The two-time scoring leader’s play has gotten even better over the last seven games, where he’s averaged 40.0 points and 13.0 rebounds while shooting 60.5% from the floor and 39.1% from the perimeter.
Maxey, on the other hand, has succeeded at establishing himself as an All-Star-level player. The former 2020 21st-overall selection is averaging career-highs in points (25.8), rebounds (3.4), and assists (6.7) this season and is also Bovada’s favorite to be named 2023-24 Most Improved Player.
At the end of the day, I’m taking the 76ers to win at Wells Fargo Center. The Timberwolves have been terrific this season, but it’s worth noting that four of their five losses came on the road, where they’re also 6-7 ATS. Meanwhile, Philadelphia has won four of its last five home games while outscoring those foes by a 25.6-point average.
With that in mind, I’m also taking the Over on the 227-point total. For starters, the Over is 4-3 in the Timberwolves’ last seven games and has hit in eight of the 76ers’ last 11 outings. These teams also step up the offense whenever they meet in Philly, averaging 232.2 points in their last six meetings at Wells Fargo Center.

Best Timberwolves vs 76ers NBA Player Prop (Dec. 20)
When it comes to the best Timberwolves vs 76ers player prop, you can’t go wrong with Rudy Robert Over 10.5 rebounds.
Gobert is a machine in the paint and this season is no different. The 31-year-old center is averaging 12.2 rebounds per outing, hitting the Over on this prop 17 times in 25 outings thus far. He’s also tallied 11-plus boards in six of his last nine road games, including a 16-rebound performance on Monday.
Considering how he’s also hit the Over in five of his last seven matchups against Embiid, I like Gobert’s odds of having another productive night on the glass.
Best Timberwolves vs 76ers Prop Bet: Rudy Gobert o10.5 Rebounds (-135)
