The 2021-22 NBA Finals have been a back-and-forth affair thus far, highlighted by the Boston Celtics’ 116-100 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday to take the 2-1 series lead. Now, both teams are shifting their attention to Game 4, which goes down on Friday, June 10.
The momentum is firmly in the Celtics’ hands as they have a chance to take a commanding 3-1 lead on Friday. Their top players showed up to get the job done in Game 3, which is what they’ll need once again in just a few days.
The Warriors, on the other hand, must forget about their last loss and move on. The NBA Finals isn’t the time to dwell on shortcomings and they must push forward if a championship is the ultimate goal.
Can the Warriors tie up the series once again? Or will the Celtics head back to California with a chance to hoist the Larry O’Brien Trophy?

Warriors Must Find Consistency
One of the main reasons why the Warriors couldn’t get the job done in Game 3 of the NBA Finals is that they just couldn’t remain consistent throughout the game.
Golden State immediately began the contest in a hole, going down 33-22 after the first quarter. While the Warriors outscored the Celtics, 67-60 in the following two frames, they were once again thrashed, 23-11, in the final quarter.
The Celtics are a great team and the Warriors need a full 48-minute effort against them. What they could also use is some help from their supporting cast.
Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson did most of the heavy lifting Wednesday night. Curry finished the matchup with a game-high 31 points on .545/.545/1.000 shooting splits, while Klay Thompson had 25 of his own points.
Speaking of Curry, he injured his foot during a scramble for the ball during the fourth quarter. He says that he’s feeling fine, but Golden State could be in trouble if he misses time.
Aside from Andrew Wiggins’ 18-point effort, Jordan Poole was the only other player to hit a double-digit total. Nevertheless, Poole’s 10 points off the bench in 24 minutes of playing time left much to be desired.
The fact of the matter is that the Celtics have a deep team and the Warriors’ depth players must step up. It’s increasingly difficult to win when Otto Porter Jr., Gary Payton II and Kevon Looney combined for just 14 points.
Celtics Look to Take 3-1 NBA Finals Lead
Some people questioned whether or not the Celtics could handle a team like the Warriors in the NBA Finals. If anything, Game 3 proved that they could do more than just that.
Boston looked like the better team through most of Game 3, highlighted by solid performances from its top players.
Jaylen Brown was a man on a mission Wednesday night, finishing with 27 points while shooting 56.3% from field-goal range. He also added nine rebounds and five assists despite coughing up the ball five times.
Jayson Tatum finished with 26 points and was one assist shy of a double-double. He only shot 39.1% from the field and 33.3% on three-point attempts, so it would be nice if he could shoot a bit more consistently going forward.
Not to be outdone, Marcus Smart — who’s normally known for his defense — had 24 points on .471/.429/.714 shooting splits. He also had seven rebounds and five assists, further demonstrating his ability to do a bit of everything.
The Celtics were also the more disciplined team in Game 3. They had fewer turnovers (12) compared to the Warriors (16) while only taking 17 fouls compared to Golden State’s 23.
At the end of the day, the Celtics have proven that they can take control of any given game. Only time will tell if they can also take control of the series on Friday.
Warriors vs. Celtics NBA Finals Game 4 Prediction and Best Bets
Prediction and best bets are from Thursday, June 9.
Prediction: Celtics 113, Warriors 109
Best Bets: Celtics -4 (-110 at Bovada Sportsbook) and Over 215.5 (-110 at BetOnline Sportsbook)
Even though the two teams have alternated wins so far this series, I expected the Celtics to win their second in a row on Friday. With Curry dealing with an injury and the Warriors’ depth disappearing, I like Boston’s chances of getting the job done.
As for the best bets, I’m taking the Celtics to cover the spread, which they’ve done in seven of their last 10 games against the Warriors. I’m also taking the over since they’ve already hit it twice this series.
