It has been a great basketball season for the Big Ten, both in men’s and women’s basketball. The Pac-12 may be home to the second-ranked team in men’s (Arizona) and women’s (Stanford) basketball, but in terms of collective strength and success, only the SEC and Big 12 can compare to the Big Ten this season.
On the women’s side, the conference has five teams ranked in the top 15 in the AP and Coaches polls and boasts arguably the best player in the country in Iowa’s Caitlin Clark. Clark leads Division I in scoring and assists. If you haven’t seen her play, this is your recommendation to change that.
On the men’s side, at least eight Big Ten teams will make the NCAA Tournament. Illinois, Purdue, and Wisconsin staged a compelling race for the regular season title, and high-scoring Iowa is one of college basketball’s hottest teams and one of the top March Madness sleepers out there.
There have been a number of exciting Big Ten upsets this season, from Rutgers taking down #1 Purdue to Nebraska winning at Wisconsin to deny the Badgers the top seed in this week’s Big Ten Tournament.
And on an individual level, the Big Ten is home toa number of the best players in the country, from breakout stars Johnny Davis and Keegan Murray to established stars Kofi Cockburn, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and E.J. Liddell. And last but not least, there’s Purdue’s Jaden Ivey, who will likely be the top Big Ten player taken in the 2022 NBA Draft.
All of those players are in action this week in Indianapolis, including Davis, the Big Ten Player of the Year. Davis exited Sunday’s loss to Nebraska early when he took a nasty fall on a flagrant foul by Trey McGowens and suffered a right ankle sprain.
Can Indiana, Michigan, and Rutgers Make the B1G a Nine-Bid League?
There is a lot at stake this week in Indy. Six teams (Illinois, Wisconsin, Purdue, Iowa, Ohio State, and Michigan State) are 100% certain to be in the NCAA Tournament bracket. But Indiana, Michigan, and Rutgers are all looking to lock down a spot in the field of 68.
For now, the Scarlet Knights and Wolverines are on the right side of the 2022 NCAA Tournament bubble, while the Hoosiers are not.
Thursday’s Indiana-Michigan matchup shapes up to be more of an elimination game for the Hoosiers than the Wolverines. Michigan helped their case significantly with a win at rival Ohio State to end the regular season.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at the 2022 Big Ten Tournament odds, bracket, schedule, and outlook.

2022 Big Ten Tournament Betting Outlook and Predictions
Who Will Win the Big Ten Tournament?
Purdue (+375)
The Boilermakers missed out on the regular season title, and even going all the way in Indy is unlikely to be enough to move them up to a #1 seed.
But the Boilermakers will want to go into the NCAA Tournament on a high note. And while Illinois and Wisconsin finished above them in the standings, the Boilermakers are the Big Ten’s best team in terms of talent and potential to cut down the nets in New Orleans on April 4.
After all, March Madness odds have Purdue at +1200 to win the national championship, sixth in line behind Gonzaga, Arizona, Kentucky, Duke, and Baylor. Illinois (+2500), Wisconsin (+5000), and Iowa (+5000) are joint 11th and joint 16th, respectively.
Wisconsin swept Purdue in the regular season, but both games were close. If they meet in the semis, I look for the third time to be the charm for the Boilermakers. That would set up a title tilt against most likely Illinois or Iowa, and Purdue went 4-0 combined in the regular season against those two teams.
Purdue hasn’t won the Big Ten tourney since 2009. Interestingly, they were also the #3 seed that year, and that year’s tournament was also played at this year’s venue (which was then known as Conseco Fieldhouse).
