In football, Oklahoma State vs Oklahoma is a very one-sided rivalry. The Sooners are miles ahead of the Cowboys, always have been, and probably always will be. In college basketball, things are a little more balanced. On Saturday these teams will collide in Norman, both ranked, in the first of back-to-back games.
Let’s have a look at today’s matchup. It looks like the best game of the day.
Oklahoma State vs. Oklahoma, ABC, 3:00 PM ET
Matchup: (#21) Oklahoma State Cowboys (15-6 SU, 11-9-1 ATS) vs. (#8) Oklahoma Sooners (14-6 SU, 12-8 ATS)
Spread: Oklahoma State +5 (-116), Oklahoma -5 (-106)
Total: Over 139 (-110), Under 139 (-110)
Money Line: Oklahoma State +184, Oklahoma -220
Top prospect Cade Cunningham being at Oklahoma State was always going to be interesting. The team is good again and even though they are still awaiting word about whether they might become eligible for the NCAA Tournament they are getting better as the season progresses. Now is the time I hope we can see the Cunningham that is expected to the top pick in the next NBA Draft. So far, all we have seen is a really good player with a great feel for the game. I am hoping that a trip to Norman, in a game that is on national TV, is the perfect stage for him to finally let all his talent show. I like the Cowboys to push the Sooners either way, but if we get that Cunningham an upset seems probable.
This game is a chance for the Sooners to make a bit of a statement. For a while there they were the hottest team in the country but they have hit what I think is a low point losing at Kansas State. That was the only SU loss but now they have failed to cover in three of their last four games and I am starting to wonder if this is a team that we have already seen the best of, or maybe when they beat all those good teams back in January they were getting a little bit lucky. I think the Sooners might have a lower ceiling than some other teams in their range because they just don’t have a star this year. There is no Buddy Hield or Blake Griffin in this Sooner group.
Betting Advice: Take Oklahoma State. (They are in better form right now and have the best player on either side. The line is moving in the right direction too as it has gone from +4.5 to +5. Maybe it moves a little bit more before tipoff too. )
