Number 15 ranked TCU will meet up with number four ranked Ohio State on Saturday night at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This will be the seventh overall meeting between these schools with rich football history. Ohio State leads the overall series against TCU with a 4-1-1 record. The two teams last met in 1973.
The Ohio State Buckeyes have been unstoppable in their first two games of the season. The Buckeyes defeated both Oregon State and Rutgers by more than 46 points. TCU has also had two very easy wins to open up their season. They defeated Southern by a score of 55-7 in the season opener and beat SMU 42-12 in week two. The TCU Horned Frogs are a 13 point underdog in the game against Ohio State on Saturday.
Ohio State Loaded On Offense
Sophomore quarterback Dwayne Haskins has led a relentless offensive attack so far this season. Haskins has completed over 79 percent of his passes and has racked up 546 passing yards through the team’s first two games. His nine touchdown passes has vaulted him into the mix for early front-runner for the Heisman Trophy.
Mike Weber and J.K. Dobbins have combined to rush for over 360 yards and four touchdowns for the Buckeyes in the early going this season. Ohio State will face a much tougher defense from TCU, but the Buckeyes are absolutely loaded with offensive talent.
Urban Meyer will be serving the final game of his three-game suspension on Saturday night. The Buckeyes have been able to overcome his absence in the first two games, but it will be interesting to see how Ohio State reacts if things get tough in this one. Interim head coach Ryan Day has the Buckeyes playing some inspired football, but this will be a difficult test for him as well. The Buckeyes might need to rely on their veteran defense to help keep things under control in this game.
TCU Fighting To Take Next Step
TCU has enjoyed a ton of recent success, but they haven’t been able to get over the hump and into the College Football Playoffs. Head coach Gary Patterson believes that this team can compete with the big boys, but they will have to prove it on Saturday night. The Horned Frogs played a sloppy first half in their win against SMU, and must eliminate mistakes to stay with the Buckeyes. Look for Patterson and TCU to have a few tricks up their sleeves for this game.
Sophomore quarterback Shawn Robinson has been a dangerous two-way threat for the Horned Frogs this season. Robinson has thrown for 336 yards through the first two games, while also rushing for 112. His seven touchdowns leads the TCU team, but he hasn’t faced a defense like Ohio State this year. Robinson will look for KaVontae Turpin early and often in this game. Turpin has shown the ability to make game-changing plays throughout his career, and TCU will need some of these plays against Ohio State in order to pull off the upset.
Buckeyes Win, TCU Hangs Tough
TCU should have a slight advantage of having this game played in their home state, but plenty of Ohio State fans will make the trip to Texas. The Horned Frogs need a signature win to bolster their chances of reaching the playoffs at the end of the season. The TCU offense can put up points, but it will be their defense that decides this game.
This is the type of game that Ohio State has lost in recent years, but this Buckeyes team just feels a little different. Ohio State has a loaded roster that is full of playmakers on both sides of the ball, and they should make enough plays to win this game. Ohio State will move to 3-0 with a win, but TCU will hang tough and keep it close. Take the points and bet TCU +13.0 in this game.
