Since the women’s NCAA Tournament bracket was released on March 17, many have been looking forward to a potential Albany 2 regional final between LSU and Iowa, a rematch of last season’s national championship game.
Well, the Tigers and Hawkeyes both did their part, and the most anticipated matchup of the tournament—and perhaps the season—is here. Tonight, Angel Reese and third-seeded LSU (31-5) will meet Caitlin Clark and #1 seed Iowa (32-4) for a place in the Final Four.
Last April, Iowa entered the national championship game in Dallas favored to win after a stunning upset of double-digit favorite South Carolina in the national semifinals.
But Reese and the Tigers played spoiler, downing the Hawkeyes 102-85 to win the program’s first national title.
As was the case then, Iowa is favored for the rematch. The Hawkeyes won their first three NCAA Tournament games by double digits and clobbered #5 Colorado by 21 in the Sweet Sixteen on Saturday.
LSU, meanwhile, is coming off a tense 78-69 win over #2 UCLA. The Bruins led by three late with under three minutes remaining, but the Tigers outscored them 14-2 the rest of the way to move on to the Elite Eight for the tenth time in program history.
Will Clark’s stellar collegiate career end in Albany? Or will she carry the Hawkeyes into a Final Four showdown with either Paige Bueckers or JuJu Watkins?

LSU vs Iowa Prediction & Picks
While the Hawkeyes’ lone challenge in the NCAA Tournament came in the second round against West Virginia, the Tigers have been challenged to some level in each of their games thus far.
In a 70-60 win in the first round against #14 Rice, LSU led by only two points midway through the third quarter.
In the second round against #11 Middle Tennessee, LSU trailed by four at halftime and fell behind by nine within the first 75 seconds of the third quarter. From there, the Tigers outscored the Blue Raiders 51-15 to win 83-56.
Then, in the Sweet Sixteen, UCLA erased a seven-point halftime deficit and led for much of the fourth quarter before LSU’s late rally.

Should that be cause for concern ahead of their matchup with Iowa?
Were the Tigers almost any other team—save for South Carolina and perhaps Iowa—there would be reason for concern.
But in following women’s college basketball for a long time—I won’t reveal how long, because I would age myself a bit—there are a few things I don’t question.
One of those is the mental fortitude of a Kim Mulkey-coached team, especially in this situation. And that is why I fully expect LSU to win.
Playing for a trip to the Final Four is plenty of reason to be motivated, but between the hope, hype, and expectation surrounding Iowa, the recent storylines surrounding Mulkey and her team, and all of the storylines and pieces of bulletin board material that have been collected along the way in a season that has not been a perfect ride for LSU, a pregame speech for the ages might be on the horizon tonight.
Is it them against the world? Not at all, but I expect them to play like it, much like they did last April.
