After more than four months of thrills, spills, twists, and turns, only three weeks remain in the college basketball season. But the end of the season means the beginning of the Madness. March Madness, that is. And with conference tournaments now in the books, the bracket for the 2024 edition of men’s March Madness (also known as the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament) is now set in stone.
There is plenty to debate about who was left out—Oklahoma, Seton Hall, Indiana State, and Pittsburgh were officially the first four teams out, with St. John’s another notable snub—but the conversation will quickly shift to who’s in and who will win.
Last year, the UConn Huskies won the program’s fifth national championship, defeating San Diego State at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas to cut down the nets for the first time since 2014.
This year, the Huskies are the #1 overall seed after they swept the Big East regular season and tournament titles. They were the only top seed from one of the power conferences (ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12, and SEC) to win their conference tournament, which helped them beat out fellow #1 seeds Houston, North Carolina, and Purdue to land on the top overall line.
Number One Seeds for the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament
- East: UConn Huskies (Big East)
- West: North Carolina Tar Heels (ACC)
- South: Houston Cougars (Big 12)
- Midwest: Purdue Boilermakers (Big Ten)
Will the Huskies become the first team since Florida in 2006 and 2007 to repeat? History says that one of your best March Madness betting strategies would be to back someone other than UConn, but with all that has happened thus far this season, it won’t be a surprise if Dan Hurley and the Huskies get covered in confetti at State Farm Stadium on April 8.
Throughout the tournament, our team of college basketball writers will provide predictions and expert picks for many of the 67 games that will take place from the First Four in Dayton, Ohio to the Final Four in Glendale.
Also, for all of those games and for the ones we don’t cover, our NCAA basketball picks page will have you covered with consensus and trustworthy picks for every single tournament game.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at this year’s men’s March Madness bracket.

How many teams are in March Madness?
Since 2011, the NCAA Division I men’s basketball tournament has featured a 68-team field.
This year will be the third year that the field for the women’s tournament also features 68 teams.
The 68 teams in the men’s March Madness bracket are grouped in four regions: East, Midwest, South, and West. Eight teams take part in the First Four, and the winners of the four First Four games move on to the 64-team first round.
Who is favored to win this year’s NCAA Tournament?
Who has won the most NCAA Division I men’s basketball championships?
UCLA leads the way with 11 titles. Ten of those championships came under legendary coach John Wooden in a 12-season span between 1964 and 1975, with the other coming in 1995.
Kentucky is second on the list, with the most recent of their titles coming in 2012.
Fierce rivals North Carolina (six, most recent in 2017) and Duke (five, most recent in 2015) are next in line, with UConn joining the Blue Devils and Indiana (most recent title in 1987) on five titles with their national championship win last season.
Kansas, who most recently cut down the nets in 2022, is the only other men’s program with four or more national titles.
