Not long ago, it appeared that Memphis might need to win the American Athletic Conference tournament to bag a spot in the Big Dance. Now, their regular season finale at Florida Atlantic looms large for at-large hopes that are still very much alive and kicking. Read on for our prediction and best bets for this matchup.

In mid-January, Memphis was 15-2 overall and 4-0 in conference play, a start that saw them move into the top ten in the AP poll.

Then a home loss to South Florida triggered a stretch of six losses in nine games, and with five regular season games left, the Tigers were 18-8, 7-6 and outside of the March Madness bubble picture.

Now, with four straight wins, including a home win over FAU, Memphis is back in the hunt. A win in the rematch with the Owls may not push the Tigers back into the field of 68, but it will send them into next week’s conference tournament perhaps not needing to go all the way to secure a spot.

Memphis vs Florida Atlantic Betting Analysis and Prediction

For the season, both the Tigers (80.9 PPG) and Owls (82.7 PPG) average over 80 points per game.

But in their first meeting at FedExForum on February 25, neither team hit the 80-point mark in Memphis’s 78-74 win, thanks to a 61-point first half.

If the Tigers are to have a chance to pull the upset in the rematch, they will have to put some points on the board, much like they have in most of their games this season.

FAU is 8-0 SU at home in conference play, and North Texas (in a 66-63 FAU win on January 28) is the only conference foe to not give up 79 or more points at Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena.

However, after going 8-2 ATS (9-1 SU) in non-conference play when scoring 79+ points, the Owls are just 4-8 ATS (11-1 SU) when scoring 79+ points in conference games.

Also, FAU is just 3-6 (6-3 SU) when allowing 78 or more points this season. So, if Memphis can score, they should be able to stay in this one all the way, especially when you consider that they are 15-3 SU this season when scoring 78+ points.

The Tigers may not be able to get the victory, but I don’t envision the Owls blowing them away at all, especially if Memphis is able to score like they should be able to.
