NCAA Basketball Best Bets – November 11th, 2024
Stony Brook vs George Mason Best Bets
Best Bet: Stony Brook/George Mason Under 142 (-110) BetOnline
Stony Brook and George Mason face each other tonight, and 142 is way too many points for these teams. The Seawolves were demolished by Marquette in their opener, but then took down Central Michigan in a tough road win. George Mason beat up on North Carolina Central, and also lost to Marquette, but kept it within 20 points.
Tonight the Patriots are over 15 point favorites at home, rightfully so. But I do trust the Stony Brook defense to give them hell and force them into bad shots. As far as the pace of this game goes, George Mason, the home team controlling the pace, ranks 299th in the country. They are totally okay with slowing the game down, letting it come to them, and working the ball around for a decent shot. The Patriots defense is also ranked 30 spots higher than their offense, ranking 70th in the nation in defensive efficiency.
Stony Brook is sightly faster, but still very slow. They rank 224th in tempo, while their offense overall is north of 275 in adjusted efficiency. They don’t offensive rebound, they don’t get to the free throw line, but they play sound defense, especially on the perimeter. While George Mason likely wins this game, the Seawolves won’t make it easy, and both teams will earn every bucket they get tonight.
Coppin State vs Virginia Best Bets
Best Bet: Coppin State/Virginia Under 124.5 (-105) BetOnline
Virginia unders are back, folks! We were maybe a little worried with Tony Bennett stepping down, but Ron Sanchez runs just as slow of an offense. The Cavalier players are already bought into this style of play, so it makes sense to continue with what has been working for years.
The Cavaliers are literally the 2nd slowest team int he nation, but they are efficient from the field, with an eFG of over 64%. They are incredibly good defensively, ranking 52nd overall. Virginia doesn’t give up many free throws or offensive rebounds, so extra possessions should be nonexistent for the Eagles. As for Coppin State, they simply aren’t a good basketball team.
Offensively, they rank 362nd in efficiency, 3rd worst in the nation. They are north of 220 in pace, and north of 300 in 3P, 2P and FT percentage. Defensively, they aren’t that much better, but regardless I think Virginia would need to score 80+ in order to cover this number. Virginia unders will more than likely always be on my card until the books start adjusting these numbers.
Pacific vs Hawaii Best Bets
Best Bet: Hawaii -3.5 (-110) BetOnline
Late Night on the Island! Who doesn’t wanna back the Rainbow Warriors at midnight eastern when this game tips off?
Hawaii is a slow team, but rank 184th overall compared to Pacific who is 302nd. Both teams are replacing most of their scoring, and I like the pieces Hawaii put together a little bit better. Here’s who they brought in, and how they’ve performed so far.
Hawaii Transfers
- Marcus Greene (Houston Christian): 9 PPG, 2 Reb, 3 Ast
- Tanner Christiansen (Utah Tech): 14.5 PPG, 7.5 Reb, 2 Ast
- Gytis Nemeiksa (Xavier): 14 PPG, 9 Reb
Returning guards Tom Beattie (14.5 PPG, 2 Reb, 1 Ast) and Kody Williams (13 PPG, 1 Reb, 3 Ast, 60% 3P%) are stepping up and taking advantage of their opportunities as well. Hawaii ranks 9th in TO% and 40th in eFG% early in the season offensively. Pacific ranks 302nd overall, they do not force turnovers at all, ranking 344th in TO% defensively, and 344th in Adjusted Defensive Efficiency overall.
The Rainbow Warriors should shoot lights out tonight on the island and easily beat the inferior Tigers.
