NCAA Basketball Best Bets – November 13th, 2024
SC Upstate vs Wake Forest Predictions
Best Bet: SC Upstate/Wake Forest Over 152 (-110) BetOnline
The Demon Deacons are an underrated team in the ACC and have looked very strong in all 3 of their games. They handled business against Coppin State and NC A&T, but then took down a scrappy Michigan team by 2 points on Sunday. They are rolling and I like them to put up a million points tonight against SC Upstate.
Wake Forest boasts a Top 50 offense, while also ranking in the Top 50 in 3P Rate, meaning then shoot a ton of threes. Nearly 48% of their shots come from beyond the arc, and I expect them to improve their 25% effort from deep. Defensively, Wake is better than they are on offense, but being Top 100 in pace at home, I think they dare SC Upstate to keep up.
SC Upstate is simply a bad basketball team. They are north of 300 in most defensive categories, adjusted efficiency, eFG%, TO Rate and Offensive Rebound percentage. How does this translate on the court? Their opponent’s have a hay day on offense, shooting well, grabbing boards for extra possessions, and taking care of the ball. Ultimately I do see Wake taking their foot off the gas slightly on defense, as they look ahead to a tough matchup against Xavier this weekend. Give me plenty of points in this track meet of a game, as SC Upstate is also a Top 130 team in terms of possessions per game.
Montana vs #11 Tennessee Predictions
Best Bet: Montana TT Under 56.5 (-110) Bovada
Tennessee is a very good basketball team, hosting a much inferior opponent at home tonight. The Grizzlies have beaten two non-D1 opponents, and also were blown out by Oregon by 31 last Friday. Now they have to face arguably one of the best defenses in all of college basketball.
Tennessee not only has a Top 30 offense, but they rank 3rd in defensive efficiency as well. They force turnovers, contest shots, and keep their foes off of the free throw line. The Volunteers rank 44th in eFG defense, 64th in TO%, and 59th in FT Rate defensively. They play fairly slow, ranking north of 180 in pace, and their opponent is even slower.
Montana ranks 314th in possessions per game, significantly slowing the ball game down. Offensively, they can’t shoot. The Grizzlies rank 350th in offensive eFG%, they turn the ball over more than 20% of the time, and fail to grab very many offensive rebounds. They are absolutely no threat from deep, as they shoot less than 16% from beyond the arc. Yes, you read that right, they shoot 15.8% from deep.
Against one of the best defenses in the country, I don’t see Montana being able to score 60. Add in the slow pace of this game, and the Grizzlies will need to have a historic shooting night in order to cover this number.
