Last night was another notable night in the Mountain West, as New Mexico upended Utah State 99-86 for their second straight home win over a ranked foe. The first came Saturday against San Diego State, who will look to bounce back tonight against Nevada (11:00 pm ET, CBS Sports Network), who will also be in bounce-back mode after a home loss to Boise State.
The Aztecs (14-3, 3-1 Mountain West) were locked in a tight battle with the Lobos at halftime, but they were no match for the home team in the second half as UNM went on to win 88-70.
There have been a lot of rough results for road teams thus far in Mountain West play, but home losses like the Wolf Pack’s 64-56 loss to Boise State last Friday have been less frequent. Until falling to the Broncos, Nevada (15-2, 2-1 Mountain West) had been unbeaten at home this season, but a terrible offensive performance doomed them.

Nevada vs San Diego State Prediction and Picks
Nevada vs San Diego State Betting Analysis and Prediction
Against Boise State, Nevada did some good things on defense, forcing 18 turnovers and holding the Broncos to 41.2% from the field and 22.7% from three. But they were done in by shooting only 36.0% from the field and 25.0% from three, and it didn’t help that they were outrebounded by 19.
In their first three Mountain West games, the Wolf Pack are shooting just 41.6% from the field. That isn’t ideal when they are about to face the Aztecs, who will be looking to return to their best on the defensive end after allowing 78 points to San Jose State and 88 points to New Mexico last week.
Since allowing 75+ in three or more consecutive games twice in Brian Dutcher’s first season (2017-18), the Aztecs have allowed 75+ in three or more consecutive games just once since. That occurred in last season’s Maui Invitational, when they allowed 75+ points in each game.
The Aztecs will also be looking to have a better performance on the offensive end after a poor game across the board at New Mexico. They shot only 40.6% (26 of 64) from the field, 31.8% (7 of 22) from three, and 55.0% (11 of 20) from the foul line.
Starters LeDee, Waters, Parrish, Butler, and Elijah Saunders were only 14 of 39 (35.9%) from the field and 3 of 11 (27.3%) from three, with LeDee failing to make at least half of his shots from the field for just the third time this season. Also, by scoring only 15 points, LeDee snapped a four-game streak with 20+ points. Will we see better tonight at Viejas Arena? At home, LeDee is averaging 22.1 PPG and 8.8 RPG and shooting 59.8% from the field this season.
Look for LeDee and the Aztecs to bounce back in a big way tonight against the Wolf Pack.
