The 2022 NCAA college football season is nearly at its end as we arrive at championship week. One exciting matchup to watch is when the No. 9 Clemson Tigers meet the No. 23 North Carolina Tar Heels for the ACC Championship Game. This is the second time in history that these rivals have met at the event, making the next Clemson vs North Carolina showdown some must-see television.
Clemson enters this game coming off a 31-30 loss to South Carolina last week. The Tigers were up by at least nine points on four different occasions in the contest, but just couldn’t close things around, leaving time to tell how they fare this weekend.
Meanwhile, North Carolina has lost back-to-back outings ahead of the ACC Championship match. The Tar Heels’ most recent defeat came in the form of a 30-27 double overtime loss against North Carolina State, making it interesting to see if UNC can get back on track.
Here are BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest Clemson vs North Carolina betting odds, as well as a prediction and best bet for the upcoming ACC Championship Game tilt.

Clemson Tigers vs North Carolina Tar Heels Prediction and Picks
Clemson vs North Carolina Prediction: Clemson 38, North Carolina 27
Clemson vs North Carolina: Clemson -7.5 (Best Value: -112 at BetOnline) & Under 63.5 Points (Best Value: -112 at BetOnline)
As mentioned before, this is the second time that Clemson and North Carolina are meeting in the ACC Championship Game. The conference rivals previously met at the 2015 edition of the event, resulting in a 45-37 shootout win for the Tigers.
The victory was one of many that Clemson has had in this rivalry. The pair have met 56 times since 1903 and the Tigers have won 37 of those meetings. In fact, they’re 9-2 straight up in the last 11 head-to-head winnings, having not lost to the Tar Heels since October 2010.
While the two sides didn’t meet this season, there are reasons to believe why Clemson will continue its dominance. For starters, North Carolina’s last two losses came against teams that Clemson easily beat. While the Tar Heels picked up losses to NC State and Georgia Tech, the Tigers beat both of them earlier this season by a combined score of 71-30.
On top of that, Clemson and UNC shared five mutual opponents this season. While the former went 4-1 against them outscoring them by 56 points, the latter had a 2-3 record with a minus-15 point differential.
The Tigers also have the edge due to how mediocre North Carolina’s defense is. The Tar Heels surrender 30.9 points per game (T-No. 100) while giving up an average of 272.5 passing yards (No. 112) and 180.0 rushing yards (No. 98).
Unfortunately for UNC, Clemson has one of the more balanced attacks in the nation. Clemson is averaging the 25th-most rushing yards (192.5, up to 230.7 over the last three games) and 216.5 passing yards (No. 80). While the passing numbers don’t look overly impressive, the Tigers’ average does increase to 248.8 yards when they’re away from home.
At the end of the day, I don’t see Clemson losing to a UNC that’s dropped back-to-back matchups ahead of the ACC Championship Game. Besides, the Tigers have won each of the last four Clemson vs North Carolina matchups, proving that they own this rivalry.
Even with UNC having extra support due to the game being played in Charlotte, Clemson will be in control for the majority of this game. Once the Tigers get a decent-sized lead, expect them to use their elite run game to run out the clock.
Having said that, I do see Clemson covering the 7.5-point spread. Eight of the Tigers’ last nine victories against the Tar Heels have come by at least eight points. At the same time, it’s important not to forget that North Carolina is 2-4 ATS in its last six games this season.
As for the total, I’m going with the over. On top of the over being hit in five of their last seven meetings, Clemson and UNC have also combined for over 63.5 points in three of their most recent four clashes. Needless to say, expect a lot of points on the board Saturday.
