One of the biggest battles of the weekend will be a huge SEC battle between two ranked teams. The #2 Georgia Bulldogs head into Louisiana to take on the #13 ranked LSU Tigers. This will be a huge battle that could have playoff implications as Georgia is firmly in the conversation to make the playoffs because they haven’t lost a game this year. This is a huge game for Georgia to finally prove themselves to the SEC.
A win by LSU might put them back in the conversation for the playoffs if they are able to win out this year. Even though Georgia is on the road, they are still the favorites in this one. Georgia is 7.5 favorites on the road.
Bulldogs Looking to Get Back to Title Game
Georgia has been rolling through their opponents, but they also haven’t really played anyone that good. Their best win on the year was in the second week of the season as they took down the then ranked South Carolina Gamecocks 41-17 on the road. Since then, they have been beating down on teams with the closest game on the year being a 43-29 victory over Missouri.
The Bulldogs have a great defense which has helped lead them to these big wins. The defense is allowing just 13 points a game and 283.2 yards a game. The Bulldogs are really good in pass defense as they only allow 170 yards passing a game. Their defense ranks 6thin the nation while their scoring average sits at 2nd. The offense hasn’t been as great, but still very good. They are 23rdin the nation in total offense and they average more rush yards than pass yards a game.
They score a ton averaging 42.3 points a contest which ranks 15thin the nation. Sophomore quarterback Jake Fromm is going a very fine job this year as he has thrown the ball 114 times for 1200 yards and 12 touchdowns against two interceptions.
Tigers Looking to Bounce Back
LSU has played some tough games this year which has included a season-opening win over then the eighth-ranked Miami Hurricanes and a win on September 15thagainst the 7thranked Auburn Tigers by one point on the road. Last week, the Tigers lost their first game of the year to the #22 Florida Gators 27-19.
That game was the start of a brutal four-game stretch where the Tigers will play four ranked SEC teams including the top two ranked teams in the nation, Georgia and Alabama as well as top 25 teams Florida and Mississippi State. Through this stretch, the Tigers have gone 1-1. The offense is playing pretty well but could be better. They are only throwing the ball for an average of 202.5 yards a game which is 96thin the nation. Their defense has been the capstone to their success this year as they only allow 17 points a game.
Tigers Keep it Close
This game is going to be a defensive battle. Even though both teams have been scoring a lot of points, the majority of those points have come against teams with bad offenses. Both team’s defenses have shown up in the big games while their offenses have fallen off a bit. We can expect a very low scoring game in which big plays by the defense will end up telling us who wins the game. LSU and Georgia both need to win this game and we will see how much heart these teams have on Saturday afternoon. The winner of the game will be able to get a critical turnover late and score off of that. Take LSU to cover the 7.5 point line.
