The 2022 NCAA college football season is nearly at its end as we arrive at championship week. The SEC Championship Game is shaping up to be an exciting one as the No. 14 LSU Tigers are set to face the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs. This is the first LSU vs Georgia matchup in nearly three years, leaving many left wondering exactly how this SEC showdown will go down.
LSU enters the SEC Championship Game following a 38-23 loss to Texas A&M last week. The Tigers have yet to lose back-to-back games this season, though, leaving time to tell if that trend continues against the top-ranked team in the nation on Saturday.
On the other hand, Georgia’s flawless season continued with a 37-14 victory over Georgia Tech on Nov. 26. Things started off slow for the Bulldogs, but they eventually turned things up in the second half, outscoring the Yellow Jackets, 27-7, in the final two frames.
Here are BetOnline Sportsbook’s latest LSU vs Georgia betting odds, as well as a prediction and best bet for the upcoming SEC Championship Game tilt.

LSU Tigers vs Georgia Bulldogs Prediction and Picks
LSU vs Georgia Prediction: Georgia 36, LSU 20
LSU vs Georgia: LSU +18.5 (Best Value: -114 at BetOnline) & Over 50.5 Points (Best Value: -114 at BetOnline)
Though Georgia has achieved a ton of success this season, defeating LSU would be the icing on the cake. After all, Bulldogs head coach Kirby Smart is 0-2 in his only previous meetings against the Tigers, giving his team the extra incentive to get the job done at the SEC Championship Game.
Georgia has arrived at this point thanks to a defense that’s shut down even the best teams. The Bulldogs are surrendering the fewest points in the nation (12.4 PPG) while only giving up 283.6 total yards per game.
On top of that, Georgia’s offense produces at a top-10 rate (38.7 PPG, No. 9). Being elite on both sides of the ball has resulted in the program having a plus-26.4 scoring margin (No. 2).
For comparison, LSU’s scoring margin ranks No. 31 (plus-7.6). Although the Tigers’ offense is above average, the defense has been hit or miss this year. The unit has given up 30-plus points in four of the last seven outings, including 38 points last week to a Texas A&M offense that ranks No. 97 in the country.
Meanwhile, Georgia’s defense hasn’t allowed more than 20 points since the team’s fifth game of the season. In fact, the Bulldogs have only allowed an average of 11.7 points over their last seven games. They even held Tennessee to just 13 points over that stretch — the same Volunteers squad that dropped 40 points on LSU in Week 6.
I also fully expect Georgia to take advantage of LSU’s worsening run defense. The Tigers surrendered 274 rushing yards to Texas A&M last week and now must stop a Georgia ground game that averages the 14th-most rushing yards in the nation. Furthermore, the Bulldogs just recorded 271 rushing yards against Georgia Tech, so it’s likely that they’ll want to pick up right from where they left off.
And even though the Tigers have won four of the last five LSU vs Georgia matchups, things should be different this season. Georgia has been the clear-cut best team in the United States for some time this fall and I don’t expect the program to take its foot off the gas anytime soon.
However, while I’m projecting a Georgia victory, I do think that LSU will keep it closer than the 18.5-point spread implies. The Tigers are 4-0-1 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games against the Bulldogs for a reason, so don’t count on Georgia winning this one by three-plus TDs.
With the total also going over in seven of the last nine games between these SEC rivals, I’m backing the over on the 50.5-point total. The stakes have never been higher than they are this weekend, so look for both teams to bring their A-game, leading to a decent amount of fireworks.
