See Picks & Statistics For The GameArguably the game of the week this Saturday is down in College Station, as the Texas A&M Aggies host the LSU Tigers for an SEC Showdown. Both teams come into this matchup with just one loss so far, and a perfect conference record, that only one can extend. Neither team is in a look ahead spot as the Aggies get South Carolina while LSU faces Alabama after a bye week.
After losing their opening games to tough opponents, both LSU and Texas A&M have strung together six straight wins. LSU took down Ole Miss in an overtime thriller a couple weeks ago, while the Aggies absolutely dominated the Missouri Tigers as well. Both teams are coming off difficult road wins, but only one can keep their perfect SEC record.
Despite coming off a 24 point win on the road, away from Baton Rouge, LSU has struggled. For starters, they lost their opener to USC in Las Vegas, putting up just 20 points and allowing 27. Two weeks later in South Carolina, the Tigers won a hard fought battle with the Gamecocks by 3, squeaking out a 36-33 victory on a touchdown with 72 seconds left in the game. Texas A&M has been shaky as well, playing a tough game to Arkansas and Bowling Green at home, while beating Mississippi State by 10 on the road last week.
Who will stay perfect in the SEC? Can the Tigers pull off a tough road upset at Kyle Field?

Tigers Take on Aggies at Kyle Field
While the Tigers are 2-1 away from home this season, and 2-0 straight up on the road, they’re going somewhere different this week. Kyle Field is one of the rowdiest, loudest stadiums in all of college football, and as I know I’ve mentioned, they already lost a game at home this season. Their Week 1, exciting home opener against the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame resulted in a loss for the home town Aggies. Since then, they have handled their business, sit on top of the SEC, and I think they plan to stay there following Saturday’s matchup.
This Aggies defense is incredibly good. They rank 16th in Scoring Defense, 19th in rushing yards allowed per game, and 24th in Opponent Average Passer Rating. Texas A&M attacks you from all angles, and I have a feeling they will be able to contain Nussmeier and the rest of the Tigers offense. Defensively for LSU, I don’t really trust them at all. Against quality opponents, the Tigers allow 24 points per contest, and while the Aggies offense isn’t anything special, being at home should certainly help the put some points on the board.
LSU will have no problem turning this into a shootout, as I like their offense over the Aggies, but the Tigers’ defense simply does not compare to the one that defends Kyle Field. This team is rolling, firing on the defensive end especially one that has allowed more than 20 points just twice this season. I’ll be backing the Aggies this weekend.

The Aggies will need their defensive unit to come to play this weekend in order to win. But I think they are more than capable. Texas A&M has had no problem stopping the run or containing dual threat QBs, but Nussmeier is more of a true pocket passer. He doesn’t really like to run, and is throwing for nearly 325 passing yards per contest. Sure, the Aggies give up tons of passing yards, but that doesn’t necessarily mean their secondary is bad. Teams are forced to pass more as they typically play the Aggies from behind.
Now in this game, I don’t necessarily see Texas A&M jumping out to a big lead and never looking back. However, in the long term, their defense will make some key stops, probably force a couple of turnovers, and disrupt Nussmeier enough into making some mistakes. Give me the Aggies to stay focused and win this tough game at home. And yes, I am taking the pillow and paying the juiceman on the money line.
