South Carolina vs # 24 Vanderbilt Predictions
System play Saturday is back, and we’re riding with America’s new favorite football team: Vanderbilt. After South Carolina’s impressive 44-20 victory over then-No. 10 Texas A&M, Gamecock fans stormed the field in celebration—rightfully so. Unlike Baylor, who celebrated against a 5-4 TCU team. Comedy.
Now, South Carolina must travel to Nashville to face the SEC’s newest threat, the Commodores. Vanderbilt has been on a winning streak, defeating Alabama, Kentucky, and Auburn as at least eight-point underdogs. They’re led by possibly the grittiest quarterback in college football, Diego Pavia, a former New Mexico State dual-threat standout. He’s thrown for nearly 1,700 yards, rushed for over 550, and combined for 19 total touchdowns with just three interceptions this season.
While South Carolina has been a covering machine at 6-3 ATS, the letdown factor comes into play after such a monumental win over a ranked opponent. Coming off a 24-point victory as three-point dogs against a top-ten team is significant. Both teams are similar in talent and statistics, but Vanderbilt has shown up in their top ten matchups this season, going 1-2 SU and 3-0 ATS, while South Carolina is 1-3 SU and 2-2 ATS.
This is strictly a system play. I’ve been hesitant to back Vanderbilt games, wary of their hot streak cooling off at any moment. However, they’ve consistently performed well in tough situations, are well-coached, and remain extremely dangerous. This matchup should be exciting and competitive throughout!
