It may not be getting the same level of attention as a couple of other notable games in the SEC this weekend, the all-maroon matchup between Texas A&M and Mississippi State is very much worth your attention.
Last season, the Bulldogs went into College Station and beat a ranked A&M squad 26-22, delivering the Aggies a second straight loss to open SEC play.
It was MSU’s fifth win in eight seasons against A&M, and even though A&M is ranked in the top 20 and fresh off of a win over a top-ten Arkansas team, Mike Leach’s unranked Bulldogs are favored to make it six wins in nine meetings come Saturday.

Last Saturday, A&M impressively battled back from an early two-touchdown deficit to edge Arkansas 23-21.
The Aggies needed a hefty dose of good fortune to come out on top in Dallas. In the second quarter, they turned an unnecessary and ill-advised leap towards the goal line by Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson into a game-changing scoop, lateral, and score.
Then, with a minute and a half left, a potential go-ahead field goal doinked off the upright to give A&M the win.
Things will need to go a bit differently for the Aggies to win in Starkville this Saturday.
Their defense certainly deserves a lot of credit for holding the Razorbacks to just seven points after they scored two touchdowns in the first nine and a half minutes.
And QB Max Johnson did what he needed to and got some help from RB Devin Achane, who ran for 159 yards on 19 carries.
But for a team with as much talent as Jimbo Fisher has assembled, things are still not clicking nearly well enough to be convinced that they can be counted on to deliver week in, week out.
Mississippi State let a golden opportunity slip away at LSU a couple of weeks ago, and there are going to be nights when Mike Leach-led teams fall flat in games that they could or should win.
But the Bulldogs will be up for this one on both sides of the ball, and they will score yet another win over a ranked Texas A&M team.
