Virginia Tech vs. NC State Betting: Will points be at a premium in Raleigh?

Can NC State get back on track tonight against Virginia Tech after losing starting QB Devin Leary for the remainder of the season?
With the news of Leary’s status being followed by an ugly offensive performance in a loss at Syracuse two weeks ago, few would expect the Wolfpack to be able to follow through on their preseason potential to make a run at their best-ever college football season.
Still, they are somehow heavily favored for tonight’s matchup with visiting Virginia Tech, and a win would be highly valuable for a team needing a lift right now.
Both teams had last week off, but we’ll see how well they used that time off.
The Hokies are in great need of a win themselves, having lost four straight games entering tonight’s game.
The Wolfpack have losses to Clemson and Syracuse in their first seven games, but with Leary out and the way the offense performed against the Orange, a rough finish won’t be a surprise.

Can Either Team Move the Ball?
NC State wasn’t having the year they were expected to offensively before Leary was injured against Florida State, but the loss of Leary is a massive blow.
In the24-9 loss at Syracuse last time out, the Wolfpack were held to just 255 yards (160 passing, 95 rushing), and it is difficult to feel particularly positive about NC State covering tonight even with QB Jack Chambers having more time to prepare than he did for the loss to the Orange.
The Hokies are also not expected to generate much offense themselves.
On the ground, they are averaging just 3.2 yards per carry and 107.3 yards per game. Through the air, QB Grant Wells is completing just 59.5 percent of his passes and averaging just 6.1 yards per attempt, and he has as many interceptions as touchdown passes (seven).
Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina State Prediction and Best Bets
Virginia Tech vs. NC State Prediction: NC State to win
Virginia Tech vs. NC State Best Bets: Virginia Tech/NC State under (Best Value: under 40 @ -112 at BetUS)
There’s no way I would recommend a side play in this matchup based on what is going on with each team right now. And with other NFL and college football action going on tonight, there are simply other, better options to invest in if you’re looking to jump on a side tonight.
But as it stands, the total is much too high, and I would back the under even if the number was 37 or 38. Given how difficult it is for me to attach myself to any under, because I love high-scoring games, that I am confidently recommending an under here is not a small thing.
Of course, that means that we’re going to see a 38-35 game at Carter-Finley Stadium, but the possibility of such nonsensical chaos doesn’t dissuade me from going the direction I’m going here.
