There’s nothing like watching promising offensive and defensive players cementing themselves as league-wide forces by winning their respective rookie awards. Last year’s hardware was won by the Houston Texans duo of quarterback C.J. Stroud and defensive end Will Anderson Jr.

To the surprise of no one, Chicago Bears quarterback and 2024 first-overall pick Caleb Williams is the odds-on favorite to be named the Offensive Rookie of the Year. The former USC gunslinger heads into the remainder of August with +160 odds to win the award on BetOnline, which carries an implied probability of 38.5% — significantly better than the rest of the pack.
Williams displayed a ton of potential throughout his time with the Trojans. Not only did he throw for over 8,100 yards with 72 touchdowns (to 10 interceptions) in two seasons, but he also took home the 2022 Heisman Trophy honors.
While college success doesn’t necessarily lead to NFL results, the Bears have done well at giving Williams every tool he needs to succeed. On top of a re-fortified offensive line, Williams is also surrounded by dangerous weapons like Keenan Allen, DJ Moore, Rome Odunze, Cole Kmet, D’Andre Swift, and more. In other words, there’s no reason for him not to succeed this fall — especially given that Chicago has the third-easiest schedule.
Bears QB Caleb Williams is the 2024 NFL OROY favorite across most sportsbooks.
While I can easily see Williams winning this award, some bettors would prefer a pick with more value. That’s why I like the idea of Keon Coleman (+1200), too.
The former Florida State pass-catcher is set to open the 2024 season as the Buffalo Bills’ WR1 following Stefon Diggs’ offseason departure. He was drafted 33rd overall by the Bills back in April after racking up 658 receiving yards and an ACC-leading 11 touchdowns in 12 games with the Seminoles while also converting 25 punt returns into 300 yards.
I’m not saying that Coleman will be as good as Diggs right away, but that doesn’t matter. Diggs being gone means that his 107 receptions, 1,183 yards, and eight TDs from last season are up for grabs. If Coleman can establish a strong connection with QB Josh Allen early on, it might not be long before the rookie’s award odds shorten.
2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Prediction: Caleb Williams (+160)
2024 NFL OROY Value Pick: Keon Coleman (+1200)

Laiatu Latu was the first defensive player off the board at the 2024 NFL Draft, selected 15th overall by the Indianapolis Colts. After many people called the former UCLA defender one of the top steals of the draft, Latu is now BetOnline’s +300 favorite (25.0%) to be named the 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year.
After missing the 2020 and 2021 seasons due to a severe neck injury, Latu became one of the NCAA’s most dangerous defenders. In the last two seasons with the Bruins, Latu amassed 51 solo tackles, 23.0 sacks, two interceptions, and a pair of forced fumbles across 25 games. The two-time first-team All-Pac-12 DE earned plenty of accolades for his work, which includes the 2023 Ted Hendricks, Lombardi, and Pat Tillman Defensive Player of the Year awards.
Minnesota Vikings linebacker Dallas Turner is right behind Latu at +400 odds, though. The former Alabama defender paced the SEC with 10.0 sacks last season while being named the conference’s co-Defensive Player of the Year. Given how bad the Vikings’ offensive is projected to be, Turner could see a lot of playing time this fall and that might give him the edge over Latu.
As for a value pick, keep an eye on Chop Robinson at +1200 odds. Injuries to fellow linebackers Jaelan Phillips and Jordyn Brooks could have the ex-Penn State product thrust into a starting job once the season begins. He registered 17.5 sacks with 12 solo tackles in the last two seasons with the Nittany Lions.
2024 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Prediction: Dallas Turner (+400)
2024 NFL DROY Value Pick: Chop Robinson (+1200)
