The 2023 NFL Week 17 schedule features a rematch of the last two AFC Championship Games when the Kansas City Chiefs (9-6) play host to the Cincinnati Bengals (8-7) on Sunday, Dec. 31 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
After enjoying a three-game winning streak, the Bengals came back down to earth with last week’s 34-11 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Having said that, the Chiefs could also use a victory after falling 20-14 to the Las Vegas Raiders at home.
If you’re hoping to see these teams meeting in the AFC Championship Game again this season, don’t count on it. While Kansas City has +475 odds to represent the AFC at Super Bowl LVIII (4th), per Bovada, Cincinnati is much further down the list at +8000 (9th).
With that in mind, let’s explore my Bengals vs Chiefs prediction and best bets for New Year’s Eve.

Bengals vs Chiefs Betting Trends

Bengals vs Chiefs Prediction & Best Bet: NFL Week 17
The Chiefs might be the projected 7-point favorites in this matchup, but it’s hard to have a ton of faith in Patrick Mahomes and co. based on their recent play.
After all, Kansas City has lost four of its last six games with the two wins during that stretch coming against sub-.500 teams. Last week’s loss to the Raiders magnified the Chiefs' struggles considering how the latter couldn’t get the win despite Las Vegas not completing a single pass after the first quarter.
The main problem is a lack of a consistent offense. After leading the NFL with a 29.2 PPG clip in 2022, the Chiefs are only averaging 22.2 PPG (T-11th) this season and have been held to 19 or fewer points in five of their last eight outings. They’re also on a three-game skid at Arrowhead Stadium, scoring just 16.0 PPG while being outscored by an average of 3.3 points.
If the Bengals want to upset the Chiefs on Sunday, QB Jake Browning must play better. While the 27-year-old signal-caller did throw for 335 passing yards against the Steelers in Week 16, he also threw three interceptions that led to Pittsburgh scoring on the ensuing drive.
But at the same time, Cincinnati was on a three-game winning streak before that loss, so bouncing back is a possibility. It also helps that Kansas City has been mistake-prone, too, recording two turnovers in each of the last three games.
Nevertheless, it’s also worth noting that while the Bengals are 7-2 SU in their last nine meetings with the Chiefs, they’ve dropped two of their last three trips to Arrowhead Stadium. That includes a 23-20 loss in the 2022-23 AFC Championship Game.
On top of that, Kansas City has won 11 of its last 15 meetings with an AFC North team.
In a game that I see going either way, I’m taking the Chiefs to pick up the win. Kansas City is better than it’s shown lately and I can’t fully trust Cincinnati after being blown out by Pittsburgh. It’ll be closer than the oddsmakers imply, but the Chiefs will edge things out in the end.
Having said that, let’s stick with the Bengals on the spread. The Chiefs have been terrible on the spread lately, covering just once in their last six games while going 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven as the favorite. Furthermore, Cincy is 6-4 ATS in its last 10 games against Kansas City.
With the Chiefs also struggling at Arrowhead Stadium, I don’t see them winning by more than a touchdown.

Best Bengals vs Chiefs Player Prop — NFL Week 17
After examining Bovada’s Bengals vs. Chiefs player props, I really like Rashee Rice to hit over 63.5 receiving yards.
Rice has been terrific for the Chiefs over the last month or so, averaging 7.5 receptions and 71.0 receiving yards over his last four games. While he only finished with 57 yards against the Raiders last week, he hit the Over on this prop in each of the three previous games.
The Bengals have struggled to defend the pass all season and have allowed the sixth-most receiving yards to wideouts. All you need to see is that George Pickens racked up 195 receiving yards last week to understand how bad Cincinnati’s secondary is.
In other words, expect Rice to thrive.
