Football enthusiasts rejoice — the 2024 NFL season is less than a month away from beginning. Betting News has done a great job of covering NFL futures markets leading up to the new campaign, and now it’s time to look at this year’s Offensive Player of the Year picture.
Last year’s award was won by San Francisco 49ers superstar Christian McCaffrey, one of the biggest game-changing offensive dynamos the league has ever seen. Having said that, does he have what it takes to be the first person to win back-to-back OPOY awards in over 20 years?
Let’s see how this award race is shaping up as we dive into the latest 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year odds, along with my prediction and a dark horse pick.

NFL Offensive Player of the Year Predictions
For this year’s NFL OPOY predictions, I’ve decided to go with two picks that I really like along with one dark horse selection. Here’s a look at them!
Christian McCaffrey (+700)
While this award hasn’t seen a ton of repeat winners. Since it was first introduced in 1972, only eight players have been named the NFL Offensive Player of the Year multiple times. Of those victors, running backs Earl Campbell (1978-80) and Marshall Faulk (1999-01) were the only ones who took the award home in consecutive years.
Having said that, I wouldn’t be shocked if Christian McCaffrey is the latest to join the list.
The 2023 NFL season solidified McCaffrey as the league’s No. 1 running back. The former Stanford Cardinal easily outperformed his peers as he paced the NFL in rushing yards (1,459), scrimmage yards (2,023), and total touchdowns (21). Not only did he take home his first-ever OPOY award with that performance, but he also finished third in NFL MVP voting, further showcasing just how dominant he was.
There’s a good chance that McCaffrey picks up exactly from where he left off. The 28-year-old dual-threat is a key part of a 49ers offense that is among the best in the NFL. As long as he’s healthy, head coach Kyle Shanahan will continue to feed him the ball behind the team’s elite offensive line. Considering how nobody has been able to figure McCaffrey out after his first seven seasons, I doubt anything changes this year.

CeeDee Lamb (+900)
Dallas Cowboys No. 1 wideout CeeDee Lamb is another player who I see staying in the 2024 NFL OPOY mix throughout the season.
Lamb, 25, continues to improve with each passing year and the 2023 campaign wasn’t any different. The three-time Pro Bowl pass-catcher terrorized defenses left and right, turning a league-leading 135 receptions into 1,749 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns. In fact, that number of receptions and receiving yards are new franchise records.
It’s hard to imagine, but Lamb may exceed last year’s performance (which was good enough for third place in 2023 OPOY voting).
After all, the former Oklahoma playmaker is looking for a major contract extension and one way to earn the big bucks is to have another performance of a lifetime. The good news for Lamb is that quarterback Dak Prescott is also looking for a new contract, which could motivate the duo to bring out the best in one another.
With BetOnline projecting Prescott to throw for more than 4,000 passing yards with about 30 touchdowns, it’s clear that there’s going to be plenty of opportunities for Lamb to make his presence felt in the 2024 Offensive Player of the Year race.

OPOY Dark Horse: Saquon Barkley (+1800)
If you want to go with one of the less obvious picks, I could see Saquon Barkley taking home the 2024 NFL Offensive Player of the Year award.
After spending his entire career with the New York Giants, Barkley left in free agency to join the Philadelphia Eagles this offseason. It was a time for a change in scenery after the ex-Penn State RB amassed 7,311 scrimmage yards with 47 TDs in 74 games while wearing a Giants jersey.
Even though Barkley has been around the league for a while, none of the Giants teams he played on are as good as the Eagles. Philadelphia already had one of the better attacks in the NFL last season, ranking eighth in total yards, eighth in rushing yards, and seventh in points. The offense has now become even more dangerous as Barkley represents a clear-cut upgrade over last year’s RB1, D’Andre Swift.
Throw in the fact that the Eagles own one of the NFL’s best offensive lines, and it’s extremely easy to like Barkley as an OPOY dark horse threat.
