Week 4 of the 2023 CFL season is here, bringing an exciting slate of three games. Teams are beginning to find their identity now that we’re nearly one month into the campaign, making it interesting to see who makes waves over the Canada Day Weekend.
The Week 4 action kicks off on Friday, June 30 as the Edmonton Elks (0-3) head to the nation’s capital to face the Ottawa RedBlacks (0-2) at 7:30 p.m. ET.
There’ll then be fireworks on Canada Day as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers (2-1) go head-to-head with the Montreal Alouettes (2-0) on Saturday at 7 p.m. ET. The week concludes on Monday with a showdown between undefeated teams as the BC Lions (3-0) collide with the Toronto Argonauts (2-0) for a 7 p.m. ET clash on Monday.
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (0-3), Saskatchewan Roughriders (2-1), and Calgary Stampeders (1-2) are all on bye this week.
Here’s a look at BetOnline’s odds for the CFL Week 4 matchups, as well as a prediction for each game.

CFL Week 4 Predictions and Picks
Elks vs. RedBlacks Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Edmonton Elks +2 (-107), Ottawa RedBlacks -2 (-113)
- Total: OVER 42 (-110), UNDER 48.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Edmonton Elks +118, Ottawa RedBlacks -138
It’s been a struggle for the Elks to get anything going this season. They’re 0-3 to begin the year due to shortcomings on both sides of the ball, scoring an average of just 14.7 points per game while allowing 27.3. While they at least scored 31 points against the Argonauts last week, it’s worth noting that the Elks were shut out by the Lions in their only road game of the 2023 campaign.
Meanwhile, the RedBlacks return to action for the first time since Week 2, searching for their first win of 2023. Their attack has been just as dreadful as their upcoming opponent, averaging just 13.5 PPG thus far.
Although Edmonton has won six of its last 10 meetings with Ottawa, I’m siding with the RedBlacks. They’ve had a week to regroup and get back on track while playing at TD Place should also provide a boost. It’s also hard to trust the Elks when they’ve yet to score a single point on the road this season.
Prediction: RedBlacks 21, Elks 16
Best Bet: RedBlacks -2 (-113)
Blue Bombers vs. Alouettes Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: Winnipeg Blue Bombers -6 (-110), Montreal Alouettes +6 (-110)
- Total: OVER 48.5 (-110), UNDER 48.5 (-110)
- Moneyline: Winnipeg Blue Bombers -225, Montreal Alouettes +195
The Blue Bombers are in dire need of a bounce-back performance this week. After an impressive victory over the Roughriders in Week 2, Winnipeg was blown out by the Lions at home on June 22, ending in a 30-6 final score. Having said that, the Blue Bombers did score 45 points in their lone road game of the season.
The Alouettes, on the other hand, head into the CFL Week 4 weekend with a 2-0 record. They remained perfect last week in dominant fashion, notching a 38-12 win over the Tiger-Cats in Hamilton as Montreal QB Cody Fajardo racked up 292 passing yards and two touchdowns without an interception. Both passing scores went to wideout Austin Mack, who also had 81 receiving yards on five catches.
Nevertheless, it’s important to note that the Alouettes’ two victories came against the Tiger-Cats and RedBlacks, who are a combined 0-5. The Blue Bombers will provide a much stiffer test — especially with an attack that has scored over 40 points twice in three games.
With both offenses displaying the ability to rack up points, taking the over on the 48.5-point total also makes a ton of sense.
Prediction: Blue Bombers 37, Alouettes 28
Best Bet: Over 48.5 Total Points (-110)
Lions vs. Argonauts Betting Odds and Prediction
- Spread: BC Lions -3 (-115), Toronto Argonauts +3 (-105)
- Total: OVER 48 (-110), UNDER 48 (-110)
- Moneyline: BC Lions -170, Toronto Argonauts +150
The Lions are the team to beat heading into the final CFL Week 4 matchup. Their defense is the biggest bright spot of their season, allowing just 7.0 PPG — including just six combined points over the last two games. The impressive play has resulted in the Lions opening up with a plus-18.7 averaging scoring margin. It’s no wonder that they have the second-best odds (+750) to win the 2023 Grey Cup on BetOnline.
At the same time, the Argonauts have also yet to taste defeat in 2023. After a Week 2 bye, Toronto returned to action last week with a one-sided 43-31 victory over the Elks. The Argos are operating at a 37.5 PPG clip, leaving time to tell if they have what it takes to solve the Lions’ stingy defense.
As great as the Argonauts have been, I have to stick with the Lions remaining perfect when the dust settles. BC’s defense is too good to ignore, only giving up 21 total points in two previous road games. The Argos have been beating up on tough teams, so it’s time to see what they can do when facing adversity.
Prediction: Lions 27, Argonauts 23
Best Bet: Lions -3 (-115)
