See Picks & Statistics For The GameWeek 2 of the 2022 NFL season kicks off with a bang in the form of a Los Angeles Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs matchup. The two AFC West rivals possess two of the highest-flying offenses in the league and will, no doubt, put on an entertaining performance in this week’s Thursday Night Football contest.
While placing bets on the moneyline, spread and total can be fine, some bettors are looking for more. Fortunately, Betting News has gathered some of the best Chargers vs. Chiefs player props and team prop bets for you to take advantage of heading into Thursday night.
Best Chargers vs. Chiefs Player Props
All player props and team prop bets are via BetOnline Sportsbook as of Thursday, Sept. 15 at 8:32 a.m. ET.
Any Time Touchdown Scorer: Travis Kelce (-135)
Even though Patrick Mahomes and the Chief lost No. 1 wideout Tyreek Hill in the offseason, the offense is more than alright with Travis Kelce as the top pass-catching option.
The veteran tight end was in mid-season form last week, hauling in eight catches for 121 yards and a touchdown. Fortunately, Kelce has a good chance to find the end zone again this week, making him a good bet to score a TD at -135 odds on BetOnline.
Kelce has four touchdowns in his last five games against the Chargers. That includes two in his last meeting against Los Angeles in Week 15 of the 2021 campaign. Considering how he was targeted an average of 10.6 times in that five-game span, he should have plenty of opportunities to score again.
Furthermore, the Chargers gave up the most receiving yards (1,170) and second-most touchdowns (13) to tight ends in 2021. Even with further defensive improvements, look for Kelce to do some damage.
Mike Williams Receiving Yards: Over 69.5 (-113)
Chargers WR Mike Williams was relatively quiet in Week 1, hauling in only two receptions for 10 yards. While that isn’t close to his 69.5-yard projected total, I expect him to bounce back on Thursday.
Williams has had plenty of success against the Chiefs in recent history. While it’s a small sample size, he’s averaged 93 receiving yards in his last three games against Kansas City. In two of those games, the veteran wideout toppled the 100-yard mark.
Given that No. 1 WR Keenan Allen has already been ruled out of the contest due to injury, Williams should see even more opportunities to hit the over. In three games played without Allen in his career, Williams averages 7.7 targets and 74.3 yards.
Khalil Mack to Record a Sack: Yes (-113)
One player that the Chargers brought in to help bolster their defense this offseason was outside linebacker Khalil Mack. The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year made his presence felt in Week 1, recording three sacks against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Even though Kansas City’s offensive line successfully protected Mahomes last week, I predict that Mack will get at the Chiefs’ quarterback.
Mack has a total of 6.5 sacks in his last seven games against the Chiefs. While the majority of those encounters came before Mahomes came to town, Mack did sack him in his last meeting against Kansas City in 2019.
With the Chiefs also needing to handle Joey Bosa, I predict that Mack will finish the day with at least one sack.
Best Chargers vs. Chiefs Team Prop Bets
Four Quarter Total: Over 14 Points (-106)
The Chiefs and Chargers have met four times since the latter drafted QB Justin Herbert. He and Mahomes have engaged in some high-scoring affairs since then, especially as far as the fourth quarter is concerned.
While the two rivals combined for exactly 14 fourth-quarter points in each of the first two Mahomes vs. Herbert matchups, things have elevated since then. The Chargers and Chiefs combined for 23 points in the final frame of their first meeting in 2021 before putting up 29 fourth-quarter points in the second.
With Los Angeles and Kansas City looking to make their claim as the AFC West’s top team, things could truly get explosive here. I’m expecting offense right up until the final whistle, which is why they’ll score more than 14 points in the fourth quarter for the third straight game.
Both Teams to Score 1+ Touchdown in Each Half: Yes (-112)
I think that this is another no-brainer Chargers vs. Chiefs team prop bet. Both Los Angeles and Kansas City have scored at least one touchdown in both halves of each of their last three meetings.
With kicker Harrison Butker being ruled out for the TNF game, the Chiefs will be forced to go for touchdowns more often. As a result, the Chargers will need to do the same to keep up with their rivals.
The two high-flying offenses are going to try to one-up the other from beginning to end. I’d honestly be shocked if one of the two doesn’t find the end zone in each half simply due to the sheer amount of offensive talent involved here.
