Miami Dolphins vs Kansas City Chiefs Prediction & Best Bets: AFC Title Favorites Set for Frenetic Frankfurt Faceoff?

On Sunday, the fine city of Frankfurt, Germany will host an NFL regular season game for the first time. And what a matchup fans at Deutsche Bank Park will be treated to, as the Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs are set to duke it out in Deutschland (9:30 am ET, NFL Network).

Despite suffering a 24-9 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, the Chiefs sit atop Super Bowl odds entering Week 9, followed by the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and their upcoming opponent.

With the Chiefs, Dolphins, Jaguars (off this week), and Ravens (at home versus the 5-2 Seattle Seahawks) all sitting at 6-2 with nine games remaining, Sunday’s first in a back-to-back of NFL International Series matchups in Frankfurt–the Indianapolis Colts face the New England Patriots there in Week 10–is a huge game with homefield advantage for the playoffs in mind.

With Patrick Mahomes dealing with the flu, the Chiefs had a rough Sunday in Denver. But oddsmakers expect them to bounce back in their first international contest since a 24-17 win in Mexico City over the Los Angeles Chargers in 2019.

Will Miami and Kansas City Light Up the Scoreboard in Frankfurt?

Against the Broncos, the Chiefs failed to score in the second half and Mahomes threw two interceptions, his first game with multiple picks since he threw three in his previous encounter with the Broncos last December.

But even after his worst performance of the season, Mahomes is still riding high as one of the favorites for NFL MVP, along with Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, and his opposite number in Frankfurt, Tua Tagovailoa.

With two of the best quarterbacks and offenses in the NFL in action, many will likely expect the Dolphins and Chiefs to have a high-scoring game.

However, that would go against the typical outcome for NFL International Series games.

That said, for all that Mahomes has done thus far this season, the Chiefs have scored 30+ points only twice in eight games.

And with a miserly defense that ranks second in the NFL in scoring defense (16.1 PPG, which trails only the Ravens’ 15.1 PPG), 50+ points have been scored in only one Chiefs game thus far (the 41-10 win over the Chicago Bears in Week 3).

Also, for all that Tua and the Dolphins have done offensively this season, 50+ points have been scored in only four of their eight games, including just one of the previous four.

Though the trends point to the under here, I think we’ll see the two MVP hopefuls put on a show in Frankfurt. Look for the Chiefs to pull out the win in an exciting duel at Deutsche Bank Park.
