This weekend’s slate of Week 2 NFL preseason action provided fans with hours of entertainment. Fortunately, the fun isn’t over just yet as there’s an Atlanta Falcons vs. New York Jets matchup scheduled for Monday, Aug. 22.
The Falcons opened up their exhibition schedule with a narrow 27-23 victory over the Detroit Lions. Considering that Arthur Smith’s team nearly lost the game if it wasn’t for last-minute heroics, it’s clear that Atlanta needs a more complete effort tonight.
Meanwhile, the Jets also began their preseason victory. Their 24-21 win over the Philadelphia Eagles was solid, including how they outscored their opponents, 21-7, in the second half to help secure the comeback win.
Here’s a look at BetOnline Sportsbook’s odds for Monday’s Falcons vs. Jets preseason matchup, as well as a prediction and best bet for the game.

Atlanta Falcons vs. New York Jets Prediction and Picks
Falcons vs. Jets Prediction: Jets 23, Falcons 17
Falcons vs. Jets Picks: Jets +2.5 (Best Value: -110 at BetOnline) & Over 38.5 Points (Best Value: -110 at BetMGM)
The Falcons nearly lost last week’s preseason game against the Lions. Atlanta trailed Detroit, 23-20, in the final moments before rookie quarterback Desmond Ridder hit first-year wideout Jared Bernhardt with a 21-yard touchdown pass with 1:30 remaining to give his team the victory.
Even though the Falcons won, they didn’t exactly look great all around. While their backfield picked up 168 rushing yards on 29 attempts, their playmakers only generated 139 yards through the air. In fact, no Atlanta pass-catcher had more than 24 receiving yards.
It also doesn’t help that the Falcons only held the ball for about 43% of the game.
While the Jets’ offense didn’t perform that much better, they do have a deeper roster of playmakers compared to the Falcons. Perhaps we’ll see first-round pick Garrett Wilson getting more involved.
Mike White will likely get the start under center for the Jets following Zach Wilson’s injury. Joe Flacco doesn’t need the preseason reps while White has much to prove after going 10-of-20 for only 98 yards and a 64.2 passer rating last week.
At the end of the day, I like the Jets’ roster more from top to bottom. There’s also the fact that the Falcons have only won two of their last 18 NFL preseason games. In other words, last week’s victory over the Lions was more of an anomaly than the rule.
I’m expecting the Jets to be 2-0 once this Monday night matchup is finished. Their defense should come through for them in the end, exposing how lackluster the Falcons’ offense truly is.
