See Picks & Statistics For The GameThe Jacksonville Jaguars travel to their division rival to take on the Tennessee Titans in Music City.
The Titans are all over the headlines right now after the shock mid-season firing of their General Manager, Jon Robinson.
I am going to take this opportunity to talk about this a bit, as I have a been a Titans fan since I was a teenager.
So if you came purely for a pick in this game, you can scroll down to the bottom. No harm, no foul and thanks for stopping by 🙂
I was shocked to find out this news when it dropped yesterday. This was the last thing that I thought would happen to this current Titans franchise, especially in the middle of what is looking like another playoff-bound season.
But when I had a chance to let the shock dust settle, I thought about it more and this move says a couple really valuable things about the Titans as a franchise but more importantly, the owner, Amy Adams-Strunk.
After getting their teeth kicked in on Sunday against the Eagles and watching their former stud WR catch touchdowns for fun and rack up 100+ yards, Mike Vrabel said ‘enough.’
Head Coach Mike Vrabel is one of the best coaches in the NFL right now but, over the past few season, he has been handcuffed by lackluster personnel decisions and poor draft strategy.
Even with that, the Titans were 12-5 last season, the number 1 seed in the AFC and Vrabel won Coach of the Year.
Then, in the offseason, Vrabel made it very clear that AJ Brown would be a Tennessee Titan as long as he was the head coach of the team.
That didn’t last long.
This move by Jon Robinson to trade Brown was the beginning of the end for Robinson. The relationship between the General Manager and the Head Coach of an NFL franchise has to be built upon trust and cohesion.
In that moment, Vrabel lost his trust in Robinson and yesterday, we found out that trust was never regained.
This is purely speculation but I believe Vrabel went to Owner Amy Adams-Strunk and they had a very serious conversation about the direction of the team and what was necessary to accomplish all of their goals.
He gave her an ultimatum. It’s Him or Me.
And she made the right decision.
This takes me to my biggest takeaway from this decision and one that is true, no matter what happens going forward.
Owner Amy Adams-Strunk means serious business.
She is not going to allow for mediocrity. She is not going to settle for ‘good enough.’
She wants to reach the top of the mountain and if you are going to help the Titans get there, you’re in.
If you aren’t, well, here’s the door.
Having an owner that holds every single employee accountable for their actions yet allows the freedom to make what decisions they see fit is the sign of an excellent boss.
The Titans are about to build a billion dollar stadium in Nashville, have one of the best coaches in the NFL and are in one of the worst divisions in football.
Strunk wasn’t going to let Robinson sink this team further into mediocrity with his swing for the fences mentality.
As a home run hitter, you have to hit home runs more often than you hit pop flies or you get taken out of the line up.
Through all of this, what shouldn’t be forgotten is that Robinson took over a franchise 6 season ago that had been in the doldrums for almost a decade.
He helped guide them to 5 winning seasons, a presumable 3 straight AFC South titles, and 4 straight playoff appearances.
There is no doubt he was the right man for the job to get the Titans to this level of expectation and he should be commended for that.
But Strunk and Vrabel want more. They want the ultimate prize and Robinson wasn’t good enough to get them there.
Even with this massive move for this franchise and all that goes with it, there is still a game to play this week and a big one at that.
The division rival Jacksonville Jaguars come to town this Sunday and even though the Jags are 4-8 and they are already looking towards next season, they are going to come out to play.
It is worth monitoring the status of Trevor Lawrence, who is listed as day-to-day with a foot injury.
I would imagine the Jags will be very cautious with their franchise QB, as their season is pretty much over.
So this is worth monitoring over the next few days.
If Lawrence is able to give it a go, can he lead the Jags to a upset on the road or will the Titans further solidify their AFC South dominance and begin this new era with a big win?

Prediction
The Titans should come into this one fired up.
They just got their asses handed to them last week and that doesn’t happen twice in a row with this team.
I expect a big game from the offense, and that starts with Derrick Henry.
Henry has had 3 down weeks in a row, rushing for less than 60 yards.
Well lucky for him and the Titans, in come the Jags, who he historically dominates.
Henry has gone over 100 yards in 4 of his last 6 against the Jags and a whopping 12 touchdowns, with 2 of those efforts being 200+ yard games.
The Titans will do everything possible to get the King going again and must start this new era with a much needed win.
