NFL Betting 2024: 5 Best Team Bets for Super Bowl 59

Football fans are rejoicing as the 2024 season is right around the corner. While the new NFL campaign is still over a week away, it’s never too early to start thinking about who’s going to win Super Bowl LIX.

The Kansas City Chiefs took home the Lombardi Trophy in February, marking their second of back-to-back title runs. Will we see them become the first-ever team to pull off a three-peat? Or will the season end with a new champion?

As the NFL season nears, let’s take a look at the five best teams to bet on when it comes to Super Bowl 59.

5 Best Super Bowl Bets for 2024 NFL Season

1. Kansas City Chiefs (+500)

Unsurprisingly, the Chiefs are set to open the 2024 NFL season as BetOnline’s +500 favorites to win Super Bowl LIX. As a result, it’s a no-brainer that they’re one of my five championship picks.

It’s just hard to go against Patrick Mahomes & Co. after everything they’ve done over the last half-decade. Since the beginning of the 2019 campaign, the Chiefs have averaged 12.6 wins across the last five seasons while reaching the Super Bowl four times along the way. They hoisted the Lombardi Trophy on three of those occasions, including in each of the last two postseasons.

Although we’ve yet to see an NFL team win three consecutive Super Bowls, it isn’t unimaginable that the Chiefs will be the first. The weapon cabinet around Mahomes was restocked this offseason and the defense looks as dangerous as ever. Barring any major injuries, Kansas City should be in the championship picture right up until the very end.

The Chiefs’ current odds might not be the most valuable, however, they’ll likely shorten as the season progresses.

2. Philadelphia Eagles (+1000)

It might be hard to remember, but the Philadelphia Eagles look like Super Bowl contenders for the early part of the 2023 season. The Eagles fought hard to a 10-1 record through their first 11 games, but that’s when things fell apart. They tumbled down the stretch with just one victory in their final six regular-season outings before falling 32-9 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round.

But instead of dwelling in defeat, general manager Howie Roseman worked hard to retool the Eagles this offseason. Names like Saquon Barkley, Bryce Huff, and Chauncey Gardner-Johnson were added through free agency while the NFL draft delivered standout prospects like Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean, and Will Shipley.

If the Eagles look as they did from Week 1 to 12 when the new season starts, the rest of the league will be in some serious trouble. The talent is certainly there in Philadelphia, meaning head coach Nick Sirianni must avoid another late-season collapse to remain in the Super Bowl mix.

3. Detroit Lions (+1100)

A few seasons ago, imagining that the Detroit Lions could be good enough to challenge for a Super Bowl was laughable. After all, they hadn’t won a playoff game since 1991 and were one of the biggest laughing stocks in the NFL for most of the 2000s.

But then Dan Campbell came to town.

Since the 48-year-old bench boss’ arrival to the Motor City, the Lions have improved with each passing season. They went from 3-13-1 in 2021 to 9-8 in 2022 to 12-5 in 2023, marking the first time in over 30 years that the franchise finished with a dozen victories. And not only did the Lions qualify for the most recent playoffs, but they also made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game, falling to the San Francisco 49ers by just three points.

Assuming that this trend continues, the Lions could very well challenge for a Super Bowl next February. They certainly have enough talent on both sides of the ball, leaving time to tell if they can finally put it all together.

4. New York Jets (+1600)

When it comes to the 2024 NFL season, the New York Jets are one of the harder teams to gauge. After all, they were poised to be Super Bowl contenders last season… until Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles just four snaps into his tenure. All reports indicate that any issues are firmly behind Rodgers, though, meaning it remains to be seen if he’ll look like his old self again.

If Rodgers, who turns 41 in December, has successfully turned back the clock, getting the Jets at +1600 could be a massive bargain. We’re talking about one of the all-time great quarterbacks who’s won four NFL MVP awards, including two of the last quartet. New York has also surrounded him with impact players at every position, so there aren’t any excuses for him not to succeed unless Father Time has truly caught up.

Considering how the Jets went 7-10 sans Rodgers last season, it isn’t hard to imagine them doing much better with a healthy QB under center.

If Rodgers stays on the field for all 17 games, the Jets should be one of the biggest Super Bowl threats in the AFC.

5. LA Rams (+2800)

If you’re looking for more of a long shot to win Super Bowl 59, I suggest taking a look at the LA Rams at +2800.

Expectations were low for the Rams ahead of the 2023 campaign. They had just gone 5-12 in the previous season, signifying that a drop-off might be imminent. Instead, the Rams — despite injuries to key players like Cooper Kupp, Kyren Williams, Cam Akers, etc. — went 10-7 and even made an appearance in the Wild Card round where they lost to the Lions by one point.

Sean McVay’s team has since had the offseason to get healthier, which could be bad news for the rest of the NFL. The offense has key playmakers at each position while the defense should still be among the league’s best units despite losing superstar defender Aaron Donald to retirement.

The Rams were my early Super Bowl LIX dark horse back in February, and their odds to win have dropped by +700 since then. In other words, hop on the bandwagon now before it’s too late.
