We’re officially in the second half of the 2024 NFL season and seats are beginning to get a little hotter around the league. Two NFL head coaches have already been given the axe — Dennis Allen (NOR) and Robert Saleh (NYJ) — as Week 11 approaches, leaving fans to wonder which bench boss is the next to be hired and what the odds might look like behind that situation.
Although the next firing isn’t guaranteed, oddsmakers can help shed light on which coaches’ jobs could be in jeopardy next.

The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Doug Pederson will likely be the next NFL head coach to be fired, according to BetOnline. The 56-year-old sits at -125 odds to be the next coach relieved of his duties amid a horrendously disappointing season in Jacksonville.
The 2024 campaign marks Pederson’s third with the Jaguars and it also happens to be his worst thus far. After going 9-8 in back-to-back years, the Jags are off to a 2-8 start to the current season — good for dead last in the AFC South. They’ve been extremely unproductive on both sides of the field as they score 20.2 points per game (21st) while surrendering 26.4 (27th), resulting in a minus-6.2 average scoring margin (26th).
The Jaguars reached the playoffs in Pederson’s first season behind the bench, however, it’s been nothing but disappointing since then. Even if they go on a seven-game win streak to end the year, it likely won’t be good enough to return to the postseason.
According to Tankathon, Jacksonville owns the fifth-easiest remaining schedule league-wide. If Pederson can’t take advantage of the upcoming matchups, he might be fired sooner rather than later.
Another candidate I see fired next is Chicago Bears HC Matt Eberflus.
It’s not a secret that Eberflus’ first two years in the Windy City weren’t anything special. The Bears went a combined 10-24 in 2022 and 2023, leaving the fanbase expecting more in 2024 after a busy offseason. General manager Ryan Poles loaded up the roster through free agency and the NFL draft, doing his best to put Chicago in a spot to succeed with additions like Caleb Williams, Keenan Allen, and D’Andre Swift.
At first, it looked like the Bears were finally taking that next step forward in their development. They entered their Week 7 bye with a respectable 4-2 record, putting them on track for the franchise’s first playoff appearance since 2020.
Unfortunately, the wheels have fallen off since then. The Bears have lost three consecutive games since returning from their break, only scoring 9.0 PPG with a minus-13.0 average margin during that stretch. With the offense showing next to zero signs of life, Chicago opted to fired offensive coordinator Shane Waldron on Tuesday.
With Waldron out of town, Eberflus no longer has a scapegoat if he doesn’t turn the season around. That could be easier said than done, though, given that the Bears’ remaining schedule is the hardest in the NFL as their final eight opponents are averaging a 70.8% win percentage.
The Bears’ last games are against the Green Bay Packers (x2), Minnesota Vikings (x2), Detroit Lions (x2), San Francisco 49ers, and Seattle Seahawks. Based on how those teams have played this season, I don’t see Eberflus lasting in Chicago until the end of the season.
Next NFL Head Coach to Be Fired Prediction: Doug Pederson (-125) or Matt Eberflus (+125)
