So, strap in as we look at the best and the worst of the 2024 NFL schedule!
The Best of the 2024 NFL Schedule Release
Stacked Sunday Night Football Lineup
There’s nothing like a good primetime NFL game on a Sunday Night. While last season featured a couple of underwhelming Sunday Night Football showdowns, the 2024 schedule is laced with juicy matchups to end the weekend.
For instance, the first SNF matchup of the year pits the LA Rams against the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. The game marks the first time that Rams QB Matthew Stafford will face his former team since the Lions sent him to Hollywood in 2021 in exchange for a package that involved Jared Goff, who just signed a four-year, $212 million contract extension.
In the following week, two of the best young quarterbacks will go head-to-head when C.J. Stroud’s Houston Texans host Caleb Williams’ Chicago Bears. Let’s also not forget about the always-anticipated Dallas Cowboys vs. San Francisco 49ers rivalry game in Week 8 or when Jim Harbaugh’s Los Angeles Chargers attempt to take down the defending Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs in Week 14.
It’s safe to say that NFL fans will be feasting on exciting SNF matchups this season.

Super Bowl LVIII Rematch
The Chiefs and 49ers went head-to-head to decide Super Bowl LVIII back in February. As hard as San Francisco tried, it wasn’t enough as Kansas City picked up the 25-22 win to win its third championship in the last five seasons. The good news is that NFL fans won’t have to wait long to see these juggernauts collide.
These two football juggernauts will have their Super Bowl rematch in Week 7 of the 2024 NFL season. The game will be played at Levi’s Stadium, where the 49ers went 7-3 between the regular season and playoffs last year.
Interestingly enough, the 49ers will be looking to beat the Chiefs for the first time since the 2014 campaign. San Francisco has lost four straight games against Kansas City since then while being outscored by an average of 11.5 points per game.
Having said that, NFL enthusiasts are bound to be entertained by a game featuring superstars like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, Christian McCaffrey, and Brock Purdy. Who knows? This contest could wind up being a Super Bowl LIX preview…
2024 Schedule Release Videos
Rather than just posting a link to their new schedules, it’s become a trend for NFL teams to release their schedule through creative videos. The Tennessee Titans stole the show last year when they had random strangers on the street guess their 2023 opponents based on logos, yielding some hilarious results in the process.
This year, it’s the Los Angeles Chargers who are making headlines with their hilarious video, using The Sims to announce their 2024 schedule. The Dallas Cowboys also had some fun, using some of the team’s alumni, current players, and other legends to Facetime the biggest fans of their upcoming opponents.

The Titans did provide a sequel to last year’s video, but it wasn’t nearly as hilarious. They opted to ask strangers about what they knew about each given team rather than asking them to identify them via a logo. The Jacksonville Jaguars released a cartoon video inspired by X-Men ’97, which saw their upcoming opponents turned into supervillains.
All in all, the majority of the league did a good job at getting fans hyped for the 2024 season.
The Worst of the 2024 NFL Schedule Release
Pittsburgh Steelers Schedule
When it comes to the worst of the 2024 NFL schedules, few teams got screwed as badly as the Pittsburgh Steelers.
While some teams have their divisional matchups spread out, that isn’t the case for the Steelers. Mike Tomlin’s squad plays all six of its AFC North games in the final eight games of the season. That’s quite the disadvantage considering how much more banged up the roster will be compared to the first half of the campaign.
What’s even worse for the Steelers is their other two opponents during that stretch. They have the (dis)pleasure of facing the always-tough Philadelphia Eagles on the road in Week 15 before needing to host the Chiefs on Christmas Day. It’s almost as if the schedule makers purposefully set Pittsburgh up for failure.
The Steelers have made the playoffs in three of the last four seasons, but time will tell if that trend is affected by the second half of their schedule.
Giants vs. Panthers in Germany
There are a total of six international matchups planned for the 2024 season as the NFL attempts to grow its global popularity. While some matchups are exciting, such as Packers vs. Steelers in Brazil or Jets vs. Vikings in London, no one is thrilled to see the New York Giants and Carolina Panthers colliding in Germany in Week 10.
We’re talking about two teams who were among the NFL’s worst last season. The Panthers finished at the bottom of the league with a 2-15 record and didn’t even have this year’s first overall selection due to their having traded it to the Chicago Bears. Meanwhile, the Giants missed the postseason for the 10th time in 12 years after finishing 6-11.
I’m sorry, but you’ll have a hard time finding people who’ll want to wake up early on a Sunday morning to see Daniel Jones going one-on-one with Bryce Young. That just isn’t the young QB showdown that NFL fans want to see on the international stage.
Unless the Panthers and Giants prove that they’ve completely turned things around, you’ll find me sleeping in on November 10.
Jets Get 6 Primetime Games
It’s no secret that the 2023 NFL season was a disaster for the New York Jets. Aaron Rodgers, who was supposed to turn them into a Super Bowl contender, tore his Achilles in the first game of the year, resulting in the team going 7-10 and missing the playoffs.
But despite the lackluster performance, the NFL has rewarded the Jets with a whopping six primetime games next season. What’s even more absurd is that they aren’t even spaced out as they’ll all occur within the first 11 weeks of the year. The six games are divided up equally with two games taking place on Thursday, Sunday, and Monday.
I understand that Rodgers is a draw and the Jets have worked at improving their roster over the offseason, but six primetime games are excessive. What happens if Rodgers suffers another season-ending injury and millions of NFL viewers are forced to watch Tyrod Taylor under the spotlight?
If the Jets look like Super Bowl contenders, this was likely the right choice by the league. If not, yikes…
