With it being October, it’s only fitting that the 13th falls on a Friday. It is ‘spooky season,’ after all. Furthermore, we’re also in the midst of the 2023 NFL season with an exciting Week 6 slate lined up for Friday the 13th weekend.
While this weekend’s lineup presents many promising betting opportunities, there are also some scary options that not even Jason Voorhees would be willing to touch.
Keeping that in mind, I’ve gathered three NFL teams oozing bad luck that you’ll want to steer clear of when it comes to your Week 6 betting.
Friday the 13th: 3 Bad Luck Teams in NFL Week 6
Any NFL betting odds used in this article are courtesy of BetDSI as of Friday, Oct. 13 at 10:46 a.m. ET.
1. Minnesota Vikings
With Aaron Rodgers joining the New York Jets over the offseason, the door opened for the Minnesota Vikings to win their second straight NFC North title.
Fast forward to the NFL Week 6 schedule and the Vikings’s 1-4 record has them tied with the Chicago Bears for the NFC North’s bottom spot. Having said that, the two basement-dwellers are set to collide this week with Minnesota sitting as the 3-point (-110) road favorite.
I just can’t bring myself to like the Vikings as the favorites this week. For starters, their defense isn’t great, surrendering 27 or more points in three of the last four games. On top of that, they have the fourth-worst red-zone defense in the NFL.
The Vikings’ offense also took a major blow this week with star WR Justin Jefferson hitting the injured reserve. He’s, easily, Minnesota’s most important player and his absence in the passing game will be felt.
Considering how the Bears are feeling confident after dropping 40 points on the Washington Commanders last week, this Week 6 showdown has the makings of a potential upset.
It’s best to fade the Vikings until they prove they’re better than their record implies.
2. New England Patriots
The New England Patriots head into the NFL Week 6 schedule with a Sunday afternoon showdown with the Las Vegas Raiders in the cards. While BetDSI is favoring the Raiders at -3 on the spread, it’s the Patriots who are favored at -120 odds to cover.
While nothing is guaranteed in sports betting, I have issues trusting the Patriots to keep this game closer than a field goal. After all, this is the same New England team that has scored only three points in its last two games.
If you want to see a true horror show, just look at Patriots QB Mac Jones’ play over the last two weeks (which resulted in his being pulled twice):
- Completion percentage: 55.8%
- Passing yards per game: 130.0
- Touchdowns: 0
- Interceptions: 4
- Passer rating: 35.0
The Raiders are far from the NFL’s best team, but they’re coming off their best defensive performance of the year that saw them hold the Green Bay Packers to 285 total yards with three turnovers in a 17-13 victory.
At the end of the day, the Patriots have a bottom-10 scoring defense and can’t find the end zone to save their lives. Their bad luck doesn’t appear to be ending any time soon, so I won’t be surprised if the Raiders win this game by more than a field goal.
BetDSI 100% Sports Bonus
Even though Friday the 13th is known for bad luck, BetDSI is bringing bettors some good vibes with an exciting sports bonus.
If you use the promo code ‘SPORT100’ when making a deposit, BetDSI will match 100% of that up to $1,000. That means a $100 deposit will leave you with $200 to play with in no time.
The promotion does come with a x20 rollover, though. That means if you have $200 after using the bonus and you won $600 (a total of $800), the rollover multiplier (20x) means you’d need to wager bets adding up to $16,000 before being able to make a withdrawal.
If you don’t have a BetDSI account, fear not. Signing up has never been faster and it’ll only be a few minutes before you’re in on the action.
Anyway, back to our final NFL Week 6 bad luck team…

3. Arizona Cardinals
After being projected to be one of the NFL’s worst teams during the offseason, the Arizona Cardinals surprised people in September. They went 1-2 in their first three games with that victory coming over the Dallas Cowboys while the two losses game by four points or less.
Unfortunately for Cardinals fans, things have taken a turn for the worse since then. Arizona has lost back-to-back games ahead of its Week 6 meeting with the rival LA Rams, getting outscored 69-36 on aggregate in those defeats.
Some bettors might like the Cardinals as 7-point underdogs to the Rams based on the first three weeks of the campaign, but back-to-back multi-possession losses are doing Arizona zero favors.
The Rams are back at full strength now that Cooper Kupp is off the IR, opening the door for them to do even more damage to the Cards. There’s also a good chance that LA wins this game by a sizeable margin after going 10-2-1 ATS in its last 13 meetings with Arizona.
With the Cardinals also losing RB James Conner — one of their top offensive weapons — to the IR, Jonathan Gannon’s team should be faded this Friday the 13th weekend.
