The Denver Broncos sent shockwaves around the NFL at the end of December when it was announced that starting quarterback Russell Wilson would be benched for the remainder of the regular season. It didn’t take much longer after that for the rumor mill to reveal that, barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Broncos plan to release him ahead of the 2024 season.

After sending five draft picks (including two first-rounders) and three players to the Seattle Seahawks in March 2022 to acquire Wilson, the Broncos immediately inked him to a massive five-year, $245 million contract. Unfortunately, the nine-time Pro Bowler couldn’t live up to the hype, playing to an 11-19 record while throwing for 6,594 passing yards, 42 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions in 30 starts.
With Wilson likely hitting the opponent market, fans everywhere are wondering what’s the next destination for the 35-year-old.
Fortunately, BetOnline’s latest NFL odds shed some light on the veteran QB’s future.

Russell Wilson Favored Destinations 2024
Atlanta Falcons (+400)
The Atlanta Falcons are BetOnline’s favored landing spot for Wilson, giving them +400 odds to nab the former Super Bowl-winning quarterback.
It isn’t hard to see why Wilson heading to Atlanta makes sense. For starters, the Falcons have a solid young core on offense — Kyle Pitts, Bijan Robinson, Drake London, etc. — but underwhelming play from QB Desmond Ridder has held them back. The former 2022 third-rounder’s play left much to be desired in his sophomore season as he finished with 2,836 passing yards and 12 TDs to 12 INTs in 13 starts.
After Desmond Ridder’s uneventful 2023 campaign, the Falcons are the odds-on favorites to land Russell Wilson.
The result of Ridder’s lackluster effort was Atlanta averaging seventh-fewest points and missing the playoffs for the seventh straight season.
Is Wilson still in his prime? No, but he’d be an upgrade over Ridder at least until the Falcons find their franchise quarterback. Besides, Wilson’s experience and strong red-zone efficiency could bring out the best in Atlanta’s young playmakers.
Considering how Spotrac projects the Falcons to have over $36.7 million in cap space this offseason, there aren’t any real financial hurdles to overcome. Don’t be surprised if they start the post-Arthur Smith era with the Cincinnati, OH native under center.
Las Vegas Raiders (+500)
After Derek Carr was released last February, the Las Vegas Raiders inked Jimmy Garoppolo to a three-year, $67.5 million contract. It was a solid move at the time given that Garoppolo had led the San Francisco 49ers to Super Bowl LIV just a few years ago.
It didn’t take long for Garoppolo to crater, though. After head coach Josh McDaniels was fired, the veteran signal-caller was benched in favor of rookie Aidan O’Connell, who was a marginal upgrade but still not good enough to lead the Raiders to the postseason.
With Wilson receiving a lot of money from the Broncos’ buying him out, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Raiders sign him to a cheap contract. After all, competition between him and O’Connell could bring out the best in the latter. Even if AOC isn’t ready to be a full-time starter, one year learning behind Wilson could do a world of wonder.
Furthermore, the Raiders will have over $52.4 million to spend this offseason, meaning there’s more than enough money to surround Wilson with some competent weapons and a rock-solid offensive line.

New England Patriots (+600)
What about the New England Patriots?
Few times had worse quarterback playing in 2023 than the Patriots, who were a bottom-5 team when it came to passing yards per game and yards per completion. While some of New England’s offensive woes can be chalked up to injuries and coaching decisions, it’s clear that neither Mac Jones nor Bailey Zappe is suited to be a starting QB in the NFL.
Could the New England Patriots be the next stop for Russell Wilson’s career?
If the Patriots want have a more respectful performance in 2024 , Wilson could be there guy. Although he does have his shortcomings and isn’t in his prime, Wilson has produced a winning record in nine of his 12 seasons. He also only threw 11 fewer TDs in 15 starts this season than the Patriots QB room has in the last two years combined.
Bill Belichick is known for having a ton of respect towards accomplished veterans and, assuming he stays on as the head coach, could fabricate some real chemistry with Wilson. Although it might not be Tom Brady-levels of success, having an experience QB who’s been to football’s biggest stage could bring out the best in Belichick for the first time in a long time.
Russell Wilson Odds Dark Horse: New Orleans Saints (+1200)
If Wilson winds up joining one of the dark horse picks this NFL offseason, I could see it being the New Orleans Saints.
Yes, the Saints have Derek Carr, but he couldn’t bring them to the playoffs. He still has three years remaining on his four-year, $150 million contract, but New Orleans can save $12.9 million if they trade him before June 1 or $30 million after that date.
The Saints are hungry for a Super Bowl and could use a QB like Wilson who’s been to the top of the mountain and won it all. Besides, New Orleans has the likes of Chris Olave, Alvin Kamara, Rasheed Shaheed, and other talented playmakers who can help get the most out of Wilson’s final years.
Again, it’s a long shot, but if they can get him on a team-friendly contract, I could see the Saints pursuing Wilson in the coming months.
