The Steelers enter Week 3 after a hard-fought 17-14 loss to the New England Patriots. While it wasn’t a lopsided defeat, Pittsburgh didn’t look great, generating only 243 total yards of offense, with its only scoring plays through the first three quarters being two field goals.

The Browns, on the other hand, looked poised to win their second game of a season before collapsing against the New York Jets. Cleveland was up 30-17 with less than two minutes to go before the Jets fought back, earning the 31-30 victory in one of the more impressive comebacks in NFL history.

While some rivalries can go back and forth, that hasn’t been the case between the Steelers and Browns for some time.

This NFC North rivalry has leaned heavily in Pittsburgh’s favor for nearly the last two decades. The Steelers are an incredible 28-6-1 in their last 35 games against the Browns, which includes sweeping last year’s season series. Cleveland couldn’t get any offense going against its rival, getting outscored 41-24 in 2021.

However, this year’s first Steelers vs Browns matchup looks a bit different compared to last year. Instead of Ben Roethlisberger and Baker Mayfield going head-to-head at quarterback, fans will get to see Mitchell Trubisky and Jacoby Brissett start for Pittsburgh and Cleveland, respectively, instead.

The Steelers’ offense just hasn’t clicked properly with Trubisky under center, averaging only 18.5 points per game (T-No. 21). Having said that, while Brissett is a downgrade from the suspended Deshaun Watson, the Browns have managed to boast a top-10 offense through two weeks (28.0 PPG, No. 7).

Browns running backs Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt should have a solid game against a Pittsburgh run defense that's surrendered 128.5 rushing yards per game. It just gave up 124 yards and a touchdown on 31 carries to the Patriots’ backfield on Sunday.

In fact, the Steelers have given up 404 total yards of offense per game this season — fifth most in the NFL. Considering how much the offense has struggled, there’s a good chance that the Browns could get out to a sizeable lead and not look back.

Even if Brissett isn’t the greatest quarterback, I trust the Browns’ offense more than the Steelers. Even if Pittsburgh’s defense is solid, Cleveland is going to want to take out its aggression following the embarrassing loss to New York. Kevin Stefanski’s defense is better than it showed against the Jets in the dying moments of Sunday’s game.

This game should wind up being somewhat close, but I expect that the Browns will cover the 3.5-point spread. Chubb and Hunt will run all over the Steelers, leading to Cleveland controlling the ball for the majority of the contest. I just don’t think Pittsburgh will have an answer for the duo.
