The New York Jets will travel to Jacksonville to take on the Jaguars on Sunday at 1PM. After a big win in their opening game, the Jets are looking to get back on track in this road game. The Jaguars are getting ready to play their third straight home game as the Jets are gearing up for their second straight road game. The Jets finally have their quarterback of the future and the Jaguars have a defense that will compete with anyone at any time. This game is intriguing on many fronts because both are coming off of a bad loss.
Both teams are going to look to avenge their loss from last week and move up in the standings. A Jets loss will pretty much eliminate them from the playoffs and a Jaguars win could solidify them as the frontrunners for the AFC South. The Jaguars open up as 7.5 favorites at home.
Jets Roll with Rookie Quarterback
Sam Darnold is the quarterback of the future for the Jets. He is struggling a bit early on in the season but he has shown flashes this year. Darnold has thrown for 701 yards this year as well as three touchdowns and five interceptions. He is 56-of-93 this year for a 60 percent completion rate. The running game is pretty solid thus far this year gaining 106 yards a game.
Isaiah Crowell is leading the rush attack with 38 carries for 171 yards and four touchdowns. Crowell ran for 102 yards in the opening game but over the last two games, he has only ran for 69 yards on 28 carries. The defense has been a little shaky allowing 331.7 yards a game with 229 of that coming through the air. The main problem for the Jets this year is going to be scoring the ball with a rookie quarterback. They put up 48 points in the first game but a lot of that was due to the defense and special teams which scored three of those.
Jaguars Look to Get on the Board
The defense is one of the best in the NFL for the Jaguars. They only allow 304 yards a game and their pass defense is the best in the NFL. Through the first three games, the Jaguars have only allowed 188 yards a game passing. Their run defense is a bit of a struggle allowing 115 yards on the ground. The Jaguars only allow 14.7 points a game and their offense scores 19 a game.
The Jaguars are coming off a loss to the Titans 9-6 and are looking to reboot their offense this week. Blake Bortles has been pretty decent this year so far throwing for 707 yards and five touchdowns against two interceptions. TJ Yeldon hasn’t gotten into the end zone yet this year but has carried the ball 31 times for 153 yards. Despite being tied for 2ndin the NFL for scoring defense, the Jaguars just have one interception to their name this year. With a defense like theirs, they can beat anyone. But, with an offense that is struggling to score they could also lose to anyone.
Jaguars Whip Jets
This week look for the Jaguars to take down the Jets pretty easily. The Jaguars pass defense is going to disrupt Sam Darnold and the Jets passing game. This one will come down to how well the Jets defense plays. The Jets aren’t going to win in anything but a low scoring contest. If the Jaguars score more than two touchdowns then they will win this game as their defense is head and shoulders above the Jets. Look for this one to be a borderline blowout. Take the Jaguars with the points.
