One of the biggest regular season matchups of the year will take place tonight as the New England Patriots face off with the Kansas City Chiefs. The Patriots have been cruising since getting Josh Gordon in a trade with the Browns and Julian Edelman back from his suspension. They started slow but now are looking like their old selves with some blowout wins in the past few weeks.
The Chiefs have surprised everyone with their ability to move the ball and Patrick Mahomes looks better than anyone thought he could be. In a game like this one we should expect to see the offenses marching up and down the field as two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL right now face off with some defenses that aren’t at the greatest level at this point in the season. The Patriots are favored by 3.5 points at home.
Kansas City One of Two Unbeaten
The Chiefs sit at 5-0 on the year with wins over the Chargers, Steelers, and Jaguars, to name a few. They have scored 27 or more points in every game they have played up to this point in the year and they look to continue that streak tonight against the Patriots. They are second in the NFL in scoring offense as they put up 35.0 points a game. They have scored 38 or more points three this so far this season and just have been running through defenses. Mahomes leads the Chiefs with 1,513 passing yards through the first five games and he has thrown 14 touchdowns. Those 14 touchdowns lead the league and he is fifth with a quarterback rating of 112.7.
With four straight games of 300 yards passing, he is tied for the all-time Chiefs lead in consecutive 300 yard passing games. The Chiefs have so many weapons with Kareem Hunt, Travis Kelce, and Tyreek Hill that it is tough to see any defense stopping them in the future. They are a well-oiled machine and the only thing that is going to let them down is their defense.
New England Looking to Keep Passing Game Going
The Patriots got off to a bad start this year losing to the Jaguars 31-20 and the Lions 26-10 in week two and three. But after Edleman came back they have been back to their normal selves. They have scored 38 points in their last two games and they come into this game against the Chiefs with a long week as their last game was on Thursday night. The Patriots are 3-0 at home this year, so that has something to be said for itself. Tom Brady has continued his excellence even into his age 41 season.
He has thrown for 1,259 yards and is completing passes at a 67.6 percent clip. Brady is third in the NFL with 12 touchdown passes. Rob Gronkowski has just one touchdown catch on the year which came back in week one against the Texans. Sony Michel leads the team with 294 yards on the ground and has also added in two touchdowns. Their defense hasn’t looked the best this year but they only allow 21.6 points a game which is 9thbest in the NFL.
Take the Home Team
This is going to be one of the best Sunday Night games of the year. Two teams that are playing their best football come in and go to battle. With the game in Foxboro, I think that the Patriots are going to win this game. They have 10 days to prepare and while the Chiefs offense is good, and they will score points, the Patriots offense should be able to take down the Chiefs and score a ton of points on their own. I think we will see an offensive battle that the Patriots come out and cover. Take the Patriots -3.5.
