Super Bowl Records: Will the Chiefs and 49ers Break These Individual & Team Records in Super Bowl 58?

Records are meant to be broken, but there are some records that are harder to break than others. And when it comes to Super Bowl records, there are some marks that will likely remain intact even after Sunday’s Super Bowl 58 matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs.
Last year, the Chiefs’ decision to run the clock down and go for a late field goal instead of trying to punch it into the end zone meant that their 38-35 Super Bowl 57 win fell just three points short of being the highest-scoring edition of the big game.
However, a couple of individual records were matched or broken as the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles engaged in a thriller in Glendale, Arizona.
Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts tied a Super Bowl record with three rushing touchdowns and three overall touchdowns, and Chiefs receiver/returner Kadarius Toney had a record 65-yard punt return in the fourth quarter, which set up Kansas City’s final touchdown of the evening.
Will any Super Bowl individual or team records tumble at Allegiant Stadium? BetOnline has odds for a number of different options. Let’s look at them and the likelihood that they will fall or come close to falling.

Will These Super Bowl Records Be Tied or Broken in Super Bowl 58?
Will Anyone Have 15 or More Receptions in Super Bowl 58? (+900)
In Super Bowl LI, New England Patriots running back James White capped the biggest comeback in Super Bowl history with a game-winning rushing touchdown in overtime.
That win happened partly because of White’s receiving exploits, as he hauled in a Super Bowl-record 14 passes in the Patriots’ 34-28 victory.
Will someone set a Super Bowl single-game receptions record this year? There are two excellent candidates in 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey and Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
McCaffrey, who won 2023 NFL Offensive Player of the Year honors after surpassing 2,000 yards from scrimmage for the second time in his career, had 67 catches (on 83 targets) for 564 yards and seven touchdowns in the regular season.
In the postseason, McCaffrey has 11 catches (on 17 targets) for 72 yards. How frequently will Brock Purdy seek him out on Super Bowl Sunday? His high for targets this season is 12, which came in the divisional round win over the Green Bay Packers.
Kelce, meanwhile, had 93 receptions in the regular season and has 23 more in the playoffs. That includes 11 (on 11 targets) in the Chiefs’ AFC Championship Game win over the Baltimore Ravens.
This season, he has caught 78.4% of his targets (116 of 148), including 85.2% (23 of 27) in the postseason. Will Mahomes turn to him that often on Sunday?
His high for targets this season is 13, but three years ago, Kelce had 10 catches (on 15 targets) in Kansas City’s Super Bowl LV loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Considering that occurred due to Mahomes having trouble connecting with anyone else all night, the Chiefs might prefer for Kelce to not come too close to the record.
Will Harrison Butker or Jake Moody Kick a 55+ Yard Field Goal? (+200)
In the Buffalo Bills’ Super Bowl XXVIII loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Bills kicker Steve Christie booted a 54-yard field goal.
It might be a bit surprising that no one has matched or broken Christie’s record for the longest field goal in Super Bowl history, but it could be just a matter of time before someone does.
Will either Super Bowl 58 kicker in this be the one to do it?
Butker has had a career year, making 33 of 35 field goals in the regular season and seven of seven in the playoffs. He has been especially sharp from long distance, making all six of his 50+ yard kicks this season. That includes a 60-yarder against the Denver Broncos in Week 6, which is two yards short of his career long (62 yards versus Buffalo in 2022).
His opposite number has been solid this season after being drafted 99th overall in the 2023 NFL Draft. Moody was 21 of 25 in the regular season and has made three of five field goals in the playoffs. From 50+ yards, he is 3 of 4 with a long of 57 yards (versus the Rams in Week 2).
So, if either team is around the 40 and in need of points, we may well see an attempt at a record.
Will Both Teams Score 9+ Touchdowns? (+900)
Of the options on this list, this is the only one that doesn’t involve having to break an actual record.
The Super Bowl record for most combined touchdowns is ten, which occurred in Super Bowl XXIX. In that matchup, the 49ers (seven) and Chargers (three) set a mark that received a real scare last year.
But will we see nine or more touchdowns this year?
Don’t bank on it. The likes of McCaffrey and Kelce may help Super Bowl first and anytime touchdown props cash, but another touchdown fest is not likely to occur this year.
In the regular season, the Chiefs were second in the NFL in scoring defense (17.3 PPG), and they have allowed only five touchdowns in their three postseason games.
The 49ers allowed seven touchdowns in their postseason wins over the Packers and Lions, but they were third in the regular season in scoring defense (17.5 PPG) and will be facing a team that has scored 30+ points only three times in 20 games this season.
Will Both Teams Combine for 75+ Points in Super Bowl 58? (+1200)
When the 49ers won the most recent of their five championships by crushing the Chargers in Miami, the two teams not only combined for the most touchdowns in Super Bowl history. In San Francisco’s 49-26 victory, the two teams also combined for the most points in a Super Bowl.
That record nearly fell last year, but it’s unlikely that there will be a similar close shave in Sin City.
However, it should be noted that in the 49ers’ last four Super Bowl appearances, there have been 51 combined points (Super Bowl LIV – Chiefs 31, 49ers 20), 65 combined points (Super Bowl XLVII – Ravens 34, 49ers 31), 75 combined points (Super Bowl XXIX), and 65 combined points (Super Bowl XXIV – 49ers 55, Broncos 10).
Either Team to Score 56+ Points (+1200)
When San Francisco decimated Denver in Super Bowl XXIV, they found the end zone eight times, scored 55 points, and won by 45 in a New Orleans nightmare for John Elway and the Broncos.
All three of those Super Bowl records remain standing to this day, and all three records are likely to be intact after Sunday’s contest between the 49ers and Chiefs.
Only eight times has a team scored 40+ points in the Super Bowl. Most recently, the Eagles scored 41 in their Super Bowl LII upset of the New England Patriots six years ago.
To date, the only other 50-piece recorded in the big game came in Super Bowl XXVII, the Dallas Cowboys’ 52-17 Rose Bowl rout of the Buffalo Bills 31 years ago.
