Super Bowl 58 Over/Under Odds: How Many Points Will the Chiefs and 49ers Score in This Year’s Game?

In a rematch of Super Bowl 54, the San Francisco 49ers will meet the Kansas City Chiefs today in Super Bowl 58 (LVIII) at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Will the city known for high rollers and high buildings play host to a high-scoring championship matchup? Super Bowl over/under bettors certainly have a big decision to make ahead of the big game’s kickoff.
Last year, two of the NFL’s highest-scoring offenses met for the Lombardi Trophy, and they delivered in a matchup that went down to the wire at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
In the 2022 regular season, the AFC champion Kansas City Chiefs led the NFL in scoring at 29.2 points per game, while the NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles finished third at 28.1 PPG.
Prior to Super Bowl 57, the under had hit in four consecutive Super Bowls, but the that run ended in Kansas City’s wild 38-35 win in Glendale.
What is in store for 2024? In the regular season, the Chiefs (17.3 PPG) and 49ers (17.5 PPG) were second and third in the NFL in scoring defense. But with a lot of offensive talent on both sides, led by Super Bowl MVP favorites Patrick Mahomes, Brock Purdy, and Christian McCaffrey, both defenses have their work cut out for them.
But with the defensive success that Kansas City and San Francisco have had this season, the Super Bowl 58 total is currently well below what it was for the previous championship matchup between these two franchises.
If it holds in the remaining hours before kickoff, bettors will have the lowest number to wager on since Super Bowl L eight years ago, when the total was a mere 43 for the matchup between the Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers.
Super Bowl 58 Over/Under Odds
With the countdown to kickoff now on, Super Bowl 58 over/under betting odds and lines are available at sportsbooks far and wide.
Here are how the numbers shake out at a few of the best online sports betting sites around.
Super Bowl over/under odds are as of Sunday, February 11, 2024.

Super Bowl Over/Under History
In the first Super Bowl, there was no posted total. But based on the fact that only one total was no more than 43 in any of the first 15 Super Bowls, we can call Green Bay’s 35-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl I an over in spirit.
After a win for the over in the Packers’ 33-14 win over the Raiders in Super Bowl II the next year, unders dominated for the next decade.
It wasn’t until the late 1970s and early 1980s that there was an uptick in scoring. And with it came a rise in Super Bowl betting totals.
Since a run of 12 consecutive totals under 40 from Super Bowl IV to Super Bowl XV, the Super Bowl over/under has been below 40 only four times in over four decades.

Recent Super Bowl Over/Under Results
2023 (SBLVII) – Kansas City Chiefs vs Philadelphia Eagles
Total: 50.5
Result: Chiefs 38, Eagles 35 (Over/Under Result: OVER 50.5)
With 12:04 left in the fourth quarter, the over hit when Kadarius Toney scored on a five-yard touchdown pass from Patrick Mahomes to put the Chiefs ahead 28-27, their first lead of the game.
The Chiefs had a chance to make it the highest-scoring Super Bowl ever, but instead of opting to try to score a touchdown on their final drive, K.C. instead set up Harrison Butker for a go-ahead kick, which he nailed from 27 yards out with eight seconds remaining.
2022 (SBLVI) – Los Angeles Rams vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Total: 49.5
Result: Rams 23, Bengals 20 (Over/Under Result: UNDER 49.5)
With just under six minutes left in the third quarter, over bettors might have been feeling rather hopeful, as the Bengals held a 20-16 lead over the Rams.
But from that point, there would be only one scoring play, which was Matthew Stafford’s decisive touchdown pass to Cooper Kupp with 1:25 left in the fourth quarter.
2021 (SBLV) – Kansas City Chiefs vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Total: O/U 56
Result: Bucs 31, Chiefs 9 (Over/Under Result: UNDER 56)
Entering last year’s Super Bowl, the Chiefs had scored 31+ points in six of seven playoff games with Mahomes. But Tampa Bay’s defense kept Mahomes and Kansas City’s offense out of the end zone all night, which was the first time that had occurred in his NFL career.
As a result, this game finished far short of its total.
2020 (SBLIV) – San Francisco 49ers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
Total: O/U 54.5
Result: Chiefs 31, 49ers 20 (Over/Under Result: UNDER 54.5)
Super Bowl LIV came far closer to hitting its total than Super Bowl LIII did, but it was on its way to being a fairly low-scoring game. But trailing 20-10 in the fourth quarter, Mahomes and the Chiefs scored three straight touchdowns over a five-minute period to rally and seal their first championship in 50 years.
Unfortunately for over bettors, the Super Bowl over/under still fell short of the over.
2019 (SBLIII) – New England Patriots vs. Los Angeles Rams
Total: O/U 57.5
Result: Patriots 13, Rams 3 (Over/Under Result: UNDER 57.5)
Super Bowl LIII had the highest total in Super Bowl history but ended up being the lowest-scoring Super Bowl ever. In an unforgettably forgettable (or is it forgettably unforgettable?) matchup in Atlanta, the Patriots scored the only touchdown of the game midway through the fourth quarter.
2018 (SBLII) – Philadelphia Eagles vs. New England Patriots
Total: O/U 49
Result: Eagles 41, Patriots 33 (Over/Under Result: OVER 49)
In a wild game in Minneapolis, the over hit with over three minutes remaining in the third quarter. When all was said and done, Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles prevailed in the second-highest scoring Super Bowl of all time.

Super Bowl Over/Under Trends
If the total remains where it is, it will be the 20th time that the Super Bowl total has been between 45 and 49.
In the previous 19 instances, the over is 11-8. The under in Super Bowl 56 ended a run of six straight overs with totals between 45 and 49.
If the number stays at 47.5, it will be the third time that has been the total. In both previous instances, the over hit. In Super Bowl XLVIII, the Seattle Seahawks demolished the Denver Broncos 43-8, and the next year, the over was already wrapped up before Malcolm Butler picked off Russell Wilson to seal the Patriots’ 28-24 win over the Seahawks in Super Bowl XLIX.
Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the NFC has been favored in the Super Bowl 24 times prior to this year’s big game. In those 24 games, the under is 12-12.
However, all 12 overs have happened in the past 19 games, as the under had a five-win head start.
